COLDWATER, ON- Third-generation star Jordan Latimer has turned heads throughout the second half of the 2014 Barrie Speedway season, and hopes to continue that streak in weekly competition on August 2nd.
The 15-year old has already tallied a victory this season, and has earned a number of top-5 finishes through the month of July, pulling to 2nd in championship points in the process.
“We’ve definitely had our struggles this year, but things have been awesome the past month”, said Latimer. “Coming into this season, we knew what we would be facing. This is a tough division to break into. The veterans here have been doing this a long time. But, I’m proud of where we’re at, I’m really happy with what we’ve been able to accomplish so far”
Latimer recently made his second career Sunset Speedway appearance, competing for his Ridge Road Racing team in July 27th’s 50-lap invitational. The freshman worked his way to the top-5 early, but suffered a blown power steering line late in the race.
“Obviously we would have loved to bring home a top-5 at Sunset, but we were happy with the way the car performed”, explained Latimer.
“It was my second time racing at Sunset, but it was my first time there in the Ridge Road Racing car. We didn’t know how our setup was going to react, but it definitely worked out for the best. We had a rocket early in the race, they definitely knew we were there”
The former Karting standout quickly explained how important a touring program is to his JL Motorsports team, as he continues his development in his first year of full-bodied stock car competition.
“Barrie is definitely our top priority, but we want to make sure that we can unload anywhere and run at the front”, said Latimer. “We don’t want to just be known for our success at one track. I want to be comfortable anywhere, and the only way to do that is to travel as much as we can”
This weekend, Latimer will be back in action at Barrie Speedway, as he hopes to tighten his grip on the runner-up position in Thunder Car division points.
“Our goal for the rest of the season at Barrie is to knock down a podium finish every night”, said Latimer. “So, that’s what we’re looking to do. This team has given me some incredible cars the last couple weeks, so hopefully I can get us to the front again. We’re second in points, but we don’t have a lot of breathing room, so hopefully we can buy ourselves some space this Saturday”
