GRIMSBY, ON- NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 veteran Jeff Lapcevich has stood on the podium in 2 of his last 3 Canadian Tire Motorsport Park appearances. The driver of the No. 76 Tim Hortons Dodge is set to return to his favourite track on the circuit this Sunday, August 31st, when Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200.
“I don’t think it’s any secret that we love going back to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park”, grins Lapcevich. “We’ve had some great runs there in the last two years. The track itself just compliments my driving style, and our Fastline Motorsports team has given me some great cars there. Everything seems to click when we unload in the CTMP paddock area”
With a pair of runner-up finishes and a pole in his back pocket, Lapcevich is ready to take the final step up the podium. The Grimsby, ON driver makes no bones about his ambitions when asked about the upcoming race weekend.
“I want to win more than anything”, says the well-spoken veteran. “We’ve been so close, so many times. When we finished 2nd in the Spring of 2013, we had just closed to the leader’s bumper and were looking to make the pass for the lead when I bobbled and gave him the cushion he needed to win the race”
“I’ve learned from every race we’ve ever had at CTMP”, continues Lapcevich. “Hopefully I can put all of it together this Sunday. A win there would mean more to our team than any other track on the schedule”
Lapcevich attributes a restructuring of the family-run team’s road-course program as the foundation for his recent success at the challenging 2.459-mile road course.
“Our road course cars are as good as they’ve ever been”, says Lapcevich. “We built a brand new chassis in 2013 – our first new chassis in over a decade – and it’s been an absolute pleasure to drive. This team does such incredible work and [set-up specialist] Chris Couvillon has really brought it to life”
“It’s been a game changer”, adds Lapcevich.
The Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 is scheduled for August 31st at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Gate times and ticket prices can be found at www.CanadianTireMotorsportPark.com.
