TROIS-RIVIERES, QC- NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 veteran Jeff Lapcevich earned a 6th place finish in the ‘JuliaWine.com Le 50 Tours’ at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres on August 10th. The finish marked Lapcevich’s third top-10 in four appearances with the national tour this season.
The Grimsby, ON driver ran within the top-15 in the final practice session, before qualifying 18th quickest in group time trials.
“We weren’t overly enthused with our qualifying effort”, explained Lapcevich. “We fought the car far more than we would have liked to on Saturday, so we knew we had our work cut out for us”
“I have to thank my team, because they made some changes that really woke the car up for racing on Sunday. It was a night and day difference”
From his 9th row starting spot, Lapcevich wasted little time working his way through the field with surgical precision, eventually spending the bulk of the event racing amongst the top-10.
“The car worked great all day. We never really had to push it”, said Lapcevich. “The frequent cautions kept us bunched together, so it was important to use some give and take out there”
“I’d like to think that, if we had the opportunity to race more under green conditions, we would have had enough for a top-5 finish”
Lapcevich picked up a number of positions in the race’s dying stages, before an extended red flag period during the first Green-White-Checker attempt led to NASCAR officials calling the race one lap earlier than its scheduled finish.
“We had a lot of car left at the end”, said Lapcevich. “It would have been nice to have had a shot at the Green-White-Checker, just to see how many positions we could have made. At the end of the day, when you take a step back and look at the competition at these events, it’s tough to be mad at a top-10. I’m proud of our whole team and what we accomplished today”
Lapcevich will be back in action on August 31st, when Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Jeff Lapcevich and the Fastline Motorsports are proud to carry sponsprship from Tim Hortons, Castrol, Cathcart Trucking, Troy Cove Marine, EpicRacewear by OnePromo.ca and Springer’s Meats throughout their 2014 campaign.
