PORT ELGIN, ON- Fresh off of a top-3 finish in his most recent outing, Jason Parker will return to action on August 9th, with his sights set on further distancing himself from his closest pursuers in the race for the Sauble Speedway Ltd. Late Model championship.
“I think I say it every time we pull off the track, but this has been a dream season”, smiles the current Sauble Speedway point leader. “We haven’t finished a race here outside of the top-3, which is phenomenal, and we’ve been fortunate enough to win 4 races already this season. With numbers like that, there’s really nothing to complain about”
With just 3 events remaining on the 2014 Sauble schedule, Parker’s third career division championship is within reach.
“It’s great to be on top of the points at this stage of the season, but I keep telling my guys not to get too comfortable”, explains the veteran. “There’s still a lot of work to be done, and we don’t want to get lazy. I don’t want to let up for a second. We’re going to see this one right through until the end”
20 points separate Parker from 2-time champion Scott McTeer, and it’s evident ‘The New Age Punisher’ is not willing to take any chances with his perennial rival.
“Scott’s like the terminator”, laughs Parker. “That man will keep trying to find a way to win until the season is over. That’s exactly why we can’t stop working. I’m a competitor, I don’t want to get lazy and coast. There are 3 races left, I want to find a way to come out and win all 3 of them”
The JP Motorsports representative will hope to kick-start that 3-race win streak on August 9th, when the Ltd. Late Models return to ‘the Beach’ for a 35-lap feature event.
“This car has been an absolute rocket ever since we debuted it in the Spring. We’ve won at Sauble with it, we’ve won at Sunset with it. It’s phenomenal. This might be the best racecar I’ve ever driven”
“We’ve worked all season to develop a familiarity with this new chassis, and we finally have that”, continues Parker. “I have confidence in my team and I have confidence in my car. All that’s left is to win a few races to close out the season, and bring home the track championship”
