WATERLOO, ON- Just one week removed from an impressive top-10 performance in NASCAR Whelen All-American Series competition at Sunset Speedway, 14-year old Jake Watson will take his show on the road – as his family-owned team has filed entry for Sauble Speedway’s July 11th ‘Battle at the Beach’.
The 8th place finish on July 4th has his Wade Watson Racing team motivated and ready for the second half of the 2015 schedule.
“That was the best run we’ve had all season,” says ‘The Derringer’. “We’ve been working so hard on this car – I’m so happy I was able to come out and finally put together a run that the guys could all be proud of”
In just his second full season of competition at Sunset, the third-generation competitor has climbed to 9th in points after an early-season full of consistent top-10 finishes.
“I’m learning and I’m getting better every weekend. That was our goal for this season,” explains the well-spoken teenager. “We haven’t loaded up once this year where I’ve felt as though we’ve taken a step back. This division is incredibly tough – but you can learn something from just about any driver on this roster”
When asked about his July 11th trip to the ‘Battle at the Beach’, Watson notes his entire team is excited to test themselves against an ultra-competitive Sauble Speedway roster.
“I’m really excited to be going back to Sauble. This’ll be our second time there – and I’m looking forward to trying it again”
“It’s pretty similar to Flamboro. We learned a ton when we ran there at the Home and Home event last season,” continues Watson. “There should be a lot of really good cars there – we’ll be looking to get to the front. I can’t wait to see where we stack up against them”
After early-season engine issues that threatened to derail their 2015 campaign entirely, Watson is quick to credit the work of his father – former Mini Stock regular Wade Watson – in keeping their family-owned No. 88 on track.
“We’ve had an awesome year so far. I can’t thank my dad enough,” smirks Jake. “He’s meant everything to my program from my first day in a Kart. We’ve been back in the shop every night this week getting ready for Sauble. Saturday can’t come soon enough.”
