OAKVILLE, ON (August 17, 2022)- Larry Jackson and the #84 O’Neil Electric Dodge team returned to action in the 2022 NASCAR Pinty’s Series on Tuesday night at the first ever series race on a dirt track.
Charging around the 3/8-mile oval at Ohsweken Speedway near Hamilton, Ontario, Jackson and the team put on a great show for the large crowd.
The challenge was steep having to get comfortable racing a very different style for the dirt surface. Several US based drivers and dirt specialists also made up the 24-car field. Jackson and the #84 team went about their business learning the track and understanding how to race in traffic.
In front of a large group from the O’Neil Electric Supply store about to open in Cambridge cheering him on, Jackson would start the 100-lap feature in the 13th position based on heat race results. When the green flag waved, he was soon moving the #84 O’Neil Electric Dodge forward in the field. In the late stages Jackson was running in seventh position.
A late race caution set up a two lap shoot out for the finish. The #84 car would get bogged down on the inside line in the late stages and finish the event in 14th spot. It was an action-packed race with a large, raucous crowd that made the race a highlight of the year.
Larry Jackson Quote:
“It sure was different. First off, great job by everyone here at Ohsweken and thanks to everyone for coming out, what a great crowd. It definitely took some time to figure out the best way around, tough part is you need to go off your preferred line sometimes in traffic. That’s where we got hung up down low and lost a few spots. Car was great, ran really well. Our team also prepped the #99 car for local racer Aaron Turkey who ran the fastest lap in Monday night practice to win a nice cash prize, great to see him have success at his first Pinty’s event”.
TV & Live Streaming:
The Pinty’s 100 will be broadcast on Sunday August 21st at 1:30PM ET on TSN and RDS2 on Saturday September 10th at 1PM ET. All races are streamed live on TSN.ca and the TSN app in Canada and through FloRacing in the United States.
The 2022 NASCAR Pinty’s Series will consist of 13 total races in five provinces with a mixture of oval tracks, road and street courses.
