Current Sunset Speedway point leader – and 2-time Garry Reynolds Memorial winner – Mike ‘Lights Out’ Bentley has confirmed that he will return to Barrie Speedway’s crown jewel event on September 21st. The Guelph, ON driver will look to remain the only victor of the 100-lap event, when he’s pitted against current Barrie point leader Gord ‘The Smoke’ Shepherd and former Barrie champions Al Inglis and Ron Quesnelle, in addition to a number of top-tier Ltd. Late Model names from across the province. Fans can keep up with Bentley’s preparation for the big event on Twitter @MikeBentley51.
Here’s our interview with Steven Mathews (above, by Greg MacPherson), post-race at September 1st’s NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. The New Liskeard, ON driver offers his view of what happened in the waning laps of the event, including his highly publicized run-in with Ron Beauchamp Jr. that led to a race-ending red flag. The interview can be found here, and follow Mathews on Twitter @15Mathews.
Fresh off of his victory in the final night of competition at Peterborough Speedway, Late Model star Bryan Mercer (above, by Peterborough Speedway) attended this week’s ACT Invitational testing session at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. ‘The Silverback’ is hoping to start September 21st’s event for the second straight season, to follow up on his head-turning 10th place finish in the 2012 edition of the all-star event.
Jeff Lapcevich (above, by Greg MacPherson) returned to the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series on September 1st at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. After setting fast time and starting pole, Lapcevich appeared very much in control of the event through the early stages. After making a scheduled pit stop, Lapcevich was making his way back through the field when a red flag brought the event to its scheduled time limit, ending the race 9 laps short. We spoke with the Grimsby, ON driver post-race in the CTMP paddock, and asked if he felt he would’ve had the car to beat if the race had lasted its scheduled 51-laps. Click here for the interview.
Multi-time Sauble Speedway Mini Stock feature winner Kevin Bridge (above, by Pamela Guppy) will make his first career Barrie Speedway start on September 21st, when he enters the Mini Stock portion of the 3rd annual Garry Reynolds Memorial.
