In the September 23rd edition of Spencer Lewis’ Short Track Notebook, we update you on the latest entrant into the Super Stock portion of Sunset Speedway’s upcoming Velocity weekend, speak with 2013 Garry Reynolds Memorial winner Dwayne Baker, preview the Autumn Colours Classic with ‘The Instant Classic’ Andy Kamrath and visit with NASCAR Canadian Tire Series star Jason Hathaway.

After earning a runner-up in the 60-lap Thunder Car portion of Barrie’s ‘Garry Reynolds Memorial’, Dave Doucette has announced he has filed entry for this weekend’s (September 28th & 29th) Velocity 250 at Sunset Speedway. ‘The Deuce’ is riding a wave of momentum that saw him compile a 3-race win streak to close out the 2013 regular season at Barrie, finishing 2nd in the speedway’s championship point standings. Doucette will join Barrie regular Travis Hallyburton, multi-time Sauble winner Todd Davenport and Sunset standouts Randy Rusnell, Lane Zardo and Paul Geniole Jr. Sponsorship for Doucette’s trip to the Velocity includes GD Coates Suzuki, Xtreme Auto Machine, Carline of Alliston and Paint by Watson. We caught up with 2013 Garry Reynolds Memorial 100 winner ‘The Bully’ Dwayne Baker (above, by Dan Craik) post-race at Barrie Speedway on September 22nd. The Stayner, ON veteran spoke candidly about what the memorial event win means to him, what his team had to battle through en route to victory lane and what his plans are for the rest of the 2013 season. Varney Speedway Motorplex veteran Scott Way (above, by Donna Tolton) has confirmed he will compete in Flamboro Speedway’s upcoming Oktoberfest Classic on October 5th & 6th. Way missed the entirety of Varney’s 2013 season, but will campaign his at Oktoberfest as well as Flamboro’s season-ending Frostfest event on October 26th. Way will enjoy marketing support from Gerry Wheaton & Son Diesel, PW Autosales, At A Glance Screen Printing & Lettering, Bellamy Contracting Services and Varney Speedway Motorplex.

Sunset Speedway Ltd. Late Model standout Andy Kamrath (above, by Thompson Photography) recently filed his entry for Peterborough Speedway’s upcoming Autumn Colours Classic on October 11th, 12th and 13th. ‘The Instant Classic’ will compete in both the Ltd.
