In the October 1st edition of Spencer Lewis’ Short Track Notebook, we update you on the upcoming Oktoberfest and Autumn Colours Classic events. Including updates on Brad Corcoran, Kevin Albers, Jason Witty, Davey Terry and David Elliott.
Flamboro Speedway Late Model veteran – and current OSCAAR Super Late Model rookie – Brad Corcoran has announced he will compete in the 113-lap Pro Late Model event at the upcoming Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway. Corcoran was part of a highlight-reel three car battle in the late stages of 2012’s ‘Classic’ event, along with eventual winner Mike ‘Lights Out’ Bentley and runner-up Matt Pritiko. The Milton, ON driver will join fellow Flamboro star Dale Shaw, 2-time Autumn Colours Classic champion ‘Old School’ Dan McHattie, 2013 Great Canadian Race winner Matt Pritiko and 2012 Delaware Speedway champion Mark Watson on a rapidly growing roster that promises to be one of the most talent-laden in recent Autumn Colours history. Gate times and ticket prices for the iconic event can be found at www.PeterboroughSpeedway.com.
2012 Flamboro Speedway Thunder Car champion ‘Killer’ Kevin Albers confirmed this past weekend that he will return to Flamboro for the speedway’s Oktoberfest Classic on October 5th and 6th. The Rockton, ON driver logged a limited schedule, touring speedways across Ontario in 2013. Albers joins Flamboro regulars Kevin Gallant, Brad Collison and Nick Troback on the growing entry list. Primary support for Albers’ Oktoberfest weekend will come from longtime sponsor Wasteco. Gate times and ticket prices for the Oktoberfest event can be found at www.FlamboroSpeedway.ca
2012 OSCAAR Modified Tour Rookie of the Year Davey Terry (above, by Thompson Photography) recently offered up his preview of the upcoming Autumn Colours Classic. The Erin, ON driver explains what makes the weekend a “fan’s event”, what’s to love about Ontario’s Crown Jewel and what a strong run at the ‘Classic’ would mean to his ‘Erin Express’ program. Following a regular season in which he earned a division-leading 6 feature wins at Sunset Speedway, Jason ‘Bam Bam’ Witty (above, by Dan Craik) has filed his entry for Peterborough’s upcoming Autumn Colours Classic. The Queensville, ON driver will look for his first career ‘Crown Jewel’ triumph in the 75-lap Ltd. Late Model A Main. Witty had his best career performance at the Thanksgiving weekend event in 2009, when he finished 2nd to Brandon Watson. The veteran joins a packed LLM entry list that already includes 2011 ‘Classic’ champion ‘Handsome’ Chris Mitchell, 2013 Flamboro champion Shawn Chenoweth, multi-time Peterborough titlist Kelly Balson, 2013 Barrie champion Gord ‘The Smoke’ Shepherd and Sunset standout ‘The Instant Classic’ Andy Kamrath. Marketing support for Witty provided by Speedy Auto, Matco Tools, Queensville Sod and Larue’s Haulage.
Former Grisdale Triple Crown champion David Elliott (above, by Delaware Speedway) will make his first start of 2013 at Flamboro Speedway this weekend (October 5th and 6th) as part of the annual Oktoberfest classic. The second-generation star took the 2013 season off from active competition, instead performing Car Chief duties on most night’s for his father Gary’s Ltd. Late Model program. David will pilot the same car that Kenny Wallace ran at the ‘Gold Rush 100’ race in August. This weekend’s Pro Late Model roster promises to be interesting, with Elliott joining 2013 Flamboro champion Shawn Chenoweth, Paul Howse and father-son combination Jason and Dale Shaw on the initial entry list.
