In this edition of the Inside Track Ontario Short Track Notebook, presented by Streamline Race Products, Spencer Lewis gives updates on several short track racers, including Taylor Holdaway, Matt Spence, Andy Kamrath, Jason Parker, Josh Shantz, Jesse Kennedy, Stephen Richmond and several others.
Sunset Speedway Limited Late Model regular Taylor Holdaway (above and in main rotator) sent along footage from his on-board camera, recorded during his top-three performance at Sunset Speedway on Saturday night. The dashboard camera captures Holdaway’s rise through the field, and also provides a phenomenal look at the five-star battle for the lead between Sunset points leader Mike Bentley and eventual winner Anthony Simone. Here’s a look at Peterborough Speedway Thunder Car competitor Matt Spence’s ride for 2013. ‘The Bearcat’ is coming off of a 2012 championship season at Kawartha, and will battle former Peterborough champion Donny Beatty and fellow Kawartha veteran Dan Price for the division championship this season.
In addition to his weekly Peterborough commitments, Spence is planning to launch a touring schedule that will take him to speedways across the province for the first time in his career. Sponsorship for the 2013 campaign will include Sellmunity.ca, Durham Furnace Heating & Cooling, NAPA Pineridge Auto Supply and Graphic Lettering.
FREE RACE TICKETS: Streamline Race Products house-car driver Andy Kamrath (above, courtesy of Thompson Photograpy) has announced a new contest based upon attracting followers to his Twitter account @AndyKamrath35. ‘The Instant Classic’ will reward his 100th follower with a pair of passes to an upcoming Sunset Speedway event. Kamrath is currently 6th in Sunset Speedway points, fresh off of a top-5 finish in the 30-lap Limited Late Model A Main on May 25th. After three straight wins to kick off the 2013 Sauble Speedway season, former track champion Jason Parker (above) has confirmed he will represent Sauble in the upcoming June 16th Limited Late Model invitational at Sunset Speedway.
‘The New Age Punisher’ is expected to be one of many to make the trip down from ‘the beach’ to compete alongside Sunset frontrunners including 2-time Garry Reynolds Memorial winner Mike ‘Lights Out’ Bentley, defending Sunset champion Stompin’ Tom Walters, 2013 feature winner Billy ‘Z3’ Zardo and 7-time champion ‘Mr. Excitement’ Chris Morrow.
The 75-lapper is scheduled for a 3:00pm start on the Sunday afternoon, and is expected to draw names from across the province. Parker will be looking for his first career Sunset feature victory. His JP Motorsports team will enjoy marketing support from Prestige Contracting, MacDonnell Fuels, Candue Homes, Saugeen Shores Transmission, Keeprite, Rob Gibbons Construction and Parker Heating & Cooling.
Flamboro Speedway Mini Stock regular Josh Shantz made his first career dirt-track start on Friday night at Ohsweken Speedway. Shantz made sure to bring his on-board camera along for the ride, and caught picked up some incredible footage.
Keep your eye out for Mark Da Silva’s barrel roll early on in the video, as Da Silva’s #01 was running just several car lengths ahead of Shantz when disaster struck. Da Silva would walk away from his wreck without injury, while Shantz would be credited with a 15th place finish.

After suffering a mechanical breakdown in the season opener for the OSCAAR Super Late Model tour at Sunset Speedway on May 19th, sophomore competitor Jesse Kennedy (above, courtesy of Thompson Photograpy) has confirmed his team will still be ready for Round 2 at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park on June 1st. ‘The Big Game Hunter’ will be in a backup car for the event, as the Southwold, ON driver looks for his second career OSCAAR victory.

Former Open Wheel Modified standout Stephen Richmond (above, courtesy of Thompson Photograpy) has returned to Delaware Speedway’s Late Model division for another fulltime campaign in 2013. The Appin, ON-based driver will look for his first career division championship, with marketing support from Reality Dreams Financial, Fastsigns, Don-Mor Automotive, Terry Sockett Auto, Ardal, Esthene Dentistry, JBM Leasing and Advanced Imagewerx.
