In this edition of Spencer Lewis’ Inside Track Ontario Short Track Notebook, we update the 2013 plans for racers George Wilson, Bryan Sudsbury, Kevin Albers and John Baker Jr.
2012 Peterborough Speedway Limited Late Model champion Bryan Sudsbury (above) will return for a title defense in 2013. The Bowmanville, ON driver will look to follow-up on the career year experienced in 2012 when he captured his first career full-bodied stock car championship. Sudsbury is currently seeking additional marketing support for the upcoming season, but is excited to welcome returning sponsors Alma Mechanical, Darrell’s Diecast and Castrol back to his program.
Two-time OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour feature winner George Wilson has announced that he will be taking a hiatus from active competition in 2013. The Sault Ste. Marie, ON product had originally intended on a fulltime schedule with the Southern Ontario-based tour, after a head-turning 2012 season, but will instead concentrate his efforts on his son’s Quarter Midget program competing throughout Michigan.
2012 Flamboro Speedway Thunder Car champion ‘Killer’ Kevin Albers has confirmed he will be shifting his home track allegiance in 2013. The Rockton, ON native will call Sunset Speedway home, and will compete alongside fellow Flamboro ex-pats Randy ‘The Rocket’ Rusnell, Lane Zardo, Matt Bentley and Steve Cashmore.
Albers’ addition will bolster a Sunset roster that has already been referred to by many within the industry as the most talent-laden support class in the province. His family-owned team will boast marketing support from Wasteco, Assante Financial Management, Sebarras Professional Services, Focus First, Henry’s Automotive and Transaxle Truck Parts.
2012 CTMP Thunder Car champion John Baker Jr. will return to the Bowmanville, ON oval in search of another championship this season. The Oshawa, ON veteran compiled a highlight reel season in 2012, capturing the track championship by an astonishing 118 points over his closest pursuer.
‘JBJ’ has also expressed interests in compiling a touring schedule that will bring him to Thunder Car hotbeds Sunset and Sauble Speedway through the 2013 campaign. The Marksman Club, John Baker’s Auto, Control Panel System and Fotheringham Bookkeeping will all return as sponsors for the upcoming season.
