For Westbrook, it was his fourth consecutive victory on the SOS Tour. Brad Rouse from St. Catharines, Ontario won his fifth feature of the season for the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman. Dennis Lunger Jr from Albion, Pennsylvania won his fifth main event of the season for the Pinty’s Delicious Foods RUSH Late Models. Dylan Llord from St. Catharines, Ontario picked up his seventh win of the season in the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks.
“This is awesome” stated Dylan Westbrook in victory lane. “Normally he (Cory Turner) runs the bottom and ended up getting underneath him in the lap traffic and was able to get it done” Westbrook continued. “It was a great run tonight” stated second place runner Cory Turner. “The car went away a little bit late and lap traffic gave us some issues and the track surface was perfect tonight” Turner added. “About halfway through, I thought I was going to check out the corn field” stated Ryan Susice after going high outside turns three and four about halfway through the race.
Race number eight of the 2016 Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS) tour was brought to the green flag by Cory Turner and Dylan Westbrook and it was Turner showing the way with Westbrook, Steve Lyons, Ryan Susice and Ryan Turner racing in the top five at the end of the first scored lap. Susice would challenge Lyons for third and the “Ransomville Renegade” would take the spot away on lap two. Barry Beck Jr came to a stop in turn four to bring out the races first caution on lap two. Ryan Turner took his number 91 to the pits during the races first caution period. Both Beck and Turner would be able to continue on racing.
On the restart, Cory Turner would jump into the lead as Westbrook, Susice, Lyons and Sean Sliter raced in the top five. Susice went over the edge in turn four and lost the third spot to Sean Sliter. Stan Zanchin spun in turn three to bring out the caution on lap five to slow the field down for the second time. Westbrook went to the outside of Turner for the lead off the restart but Turner would be able to hold him off.
“The Real Deal” Chris Steele would work his way through the field from his 12th starting spot and would challenge Dave Dykstra for fifth at the races halfway mark. The leaders would hit lap traffic at the halfway mark as Cory Turner used his Humberstone track knowledge to his advantage as he pulled away from Westbrook with ten laps remaining.
Westbrook would catch Turner with eight laps to go and would complete the pass to take the lead on lap 17. Sean Sliter had issues and pulled his entry into the infield with a broken left front, ending his night as he came in sitting second in SOS points. The caution would come back out on lap 20 as Barry Beck Jr slowed in turn two. The late race restart would see Westbrook take off over Turner and Susice as Chris Steele battled with Dave Dykstra for fourth place. Westbrook would pull away to pick up the win, his fourth consecutive win on the SOS tour. Turner, Susice, Dykstra, and Steele would complete the top five. A lap time of 13.078sec. ran by Westbrook during hot laps shattered the Humberstone track record.
Dylan Davidson and Adam Leslie were on the front row for the 25 lap feature for the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman and it was Davidson setting the pace early on. Chad Chevalier would move into second with Brad Rouse running in third early on. Chevalier and Rouse would battle for second on lap seven and would complete the pass on lap eight to take over second and would go after Davidson. Davidson would continue to lead Rouse, Chevalier, Leslie and Cody McPherson at the halfway point. Rouse would take the lead on lap 17; Rouse would open up his lead and would go on to score the win, career win number 101. Chevalier would score a runner up finish with Davidson finishing in third. McPherson and Leslie would complete the top five.
Colton Ledingham led Jeff Dayman and company in the 20 lap main event for the Pinty’s Delicious Foods RUSH Late Models. Dennis Lunger Jr would take the lead on lap two and started to pull away from the rest of the field. Rob Pietz would pass Ledingham to take over second on lap three and would go after Lunger. Off a lap four restart, Lunger would pull away as Pietz would take back the second spot from Ledingham. Jeff Dayman would battle with Ledingham for third and would complete the pass on lap eight. Sam Pennacchio would pass Dayman to take over third place on lap 12. Pennacchio would move into second on lap 13 and would go after Lunger, who opened up his lead to a full straightaway with five laps remaining. Lunger would cruise to collect his fifth win of the season.
James Thompson and Jason Fontaine shared the front row for the JC Auto Street Stocks with Fontaine showing the way. Bill Bleich Jr snapped the right rear axle on lap one to bring out the races first caution. Fontaine would take off on the restart with Vince Fargnoli challenging Thompson for second. Dave Bailey and Rob Murray battled for third spot as Bailey would use the outside to take third and then took second away from Fargnoli and then went after Fontaine for the lead. Bailey would continue to use the outside and would pass Fontaine to take over the lead on lap 10. Bailey would hold off Fontaine’s challenges in the second half of the race. Andrew Reece would bring out the caution after spinning in turn two with two laps to go, erasing the lead that Bailey had over Fontaine. Fontaine and Rob Murray got hooked on the front straight away on the last lap as Bailey would score the win, his third of the season.
Jay Moulton led from the outset in the main event for the Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks. Kyle Haynes raced into second and began giving chase to Moulton.
