BRIGHTON, ON. Andrew Hennessy in his #87 Modified and #23 Rob Perry in his Orange #23 Pro Stock were winners on Saturday night presented by R. Ward Construction and Precision Plumbing but the real winners of the night were the Canadian National Autism Foundation and Community Care Northumberland, both were supported by the fans and drivers of Brighton Speedway.  It was a jam packed night of exciting racing that included the Canadian National Autism Foundation “Kids Race” where funds were collected and raised to support families affected by Autism.  The night also hosted Fan Appreciation, the annual Community Care Mayors Hospice Cup Challenge and the Larry’s Towing Spectator One on One was filled with some intense action.

With a busy schedule on the race card fans were treated to an obstacle course event for this year’s Mayors Hospice Cup Challenge presented by Community Care Northumberland. Seven of Northumberland’s Mayors or Council representatives and there teams were on hand to compete and raised money for Hospice.  At the end of the event it was Cobourg Councilor Larry Sherwin and his team mate that won the obstacle course and at the end over $4000.00 was raised in support of the cause.

First feature to the lineup were the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks that would see a new winner for first time in many weeks. Every driver out there is trying to dethrone #72 Doug Anderson who has won 10 feature events to date this season.  This week taking the checkered flag was #23 Rob Perry for his first feature win of the season.  Anderson meanwhile who had to pit on lap 10 of the 20 lap event came out at the rear of the field and smoothly made his way through the pack from the back and was able to nab second spot at the line from #83 Jay O’Hara on the last lap for second and third respectively.  #36 Mitch Rosbourgh and #73 Jason Preece crossed to take the fourth and fifth spot.

The Vanderlaan Building Supplies Pro Late Model Division was filled with drama as an early race pile up swept up 6 cars in corner one.   #77 Caley Weese suffered powering steering failure on lap one and spun in front of the half of the field starting the pile up and ending last weeks third place finisher #46 Brandon Mowats night.  On the restart it would be #42 Adam Nayler that would dominate the first half of the race while #29 Phil Potts would start to make his way around the top side of the track.  On lap 16 Potts would take the lead and go on to take the checkered in his newly designed Fowl Mood Racing Autism Awareness car.  His winnings on the night were matched at the line by class sponsor Vanderlaan Building Supplies and donated to the Canadian National Autism Foundation along with the additional $835 raised from T Shirt Sales and donations.  Continuing their incredible hot streak well into the month of August was #11 Corey Earl and #25 Greg Belyea who finished second and third respectively followed by#42 Adam Nayler and #92Adam Turner to round out the top five in this division.

The Bainer’s Radiators Canadian Modifieds, not to be outdone for action on the track the field of seventeen cars took the track in fierce battle for the checkers.  #46 Warren Mowat broke out to the early lead and look to be in control leading the first 22 laps of the 25 lap race when the caution came out for a spin for the #55 Jamie Marshall.  While under caution Mowat’s car seemed to overheat and come to a stop on the back straight ending his night.  This would hand the lead over to #87 Andrew Hennessy who was left to fend of a hard charging #91 Kraig Handley on the outside and #11 Dan Ferguson trying to get underneath him.  Hennesy would hold on for his first win of the season.  Handley would spin out on the high side of the last corner handing second to Ferguson followed by #84 Wally Alderdice, #13 Dale Locke and #19 Zeke McKeown.

Fourth and final feature of the night was the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 Division in their third Triple Crown event.  An early race pile up on the first corner had a number of casualties including the #95 Rob Brooks and #78 Shelby Mills.  #44 Brandon Wilkie would come out on top taking home the victory but later in post race inspection disqualified during an exhaust inspection leaving the top five to #3 Justin Ramsay, #17 Jeff Humphry, #43 Tom Vance, #11 Adam Flieler and #94 Brady Greer.
