PETERBOROUGH, ON- Former Autumn Colours Classic champion Chris Mitchell endeared himself to a near capacity crowd at Peterborough Speedway’s 2014 season opener, waging a show-stealing battle alongside Limited Late Model feature winner Ryan Kimball and third-place finisher Amanda Connolly.
“That was a tonne of fun”, smiled Mitchell post-race. “Being able to start the season with a race like that is what makes the long hours in the shop worthwhile”
The evening marked Mitchell’s debut in his newly acquired McColl Racing Enterprises chassis, purchased over the off-season from longtime friend Earl Ireland.
“We started out a bit tight in the center”, explained Mitchell. “We certainly improved throughout the night, but it was still sliding the nose in the feature. It’s all part of the process of figuring out this new chassis. That’s the part I’m most excited for. We’ll take our notes, head back to the shop and see if we can’t put together a better setup for Week 2”
‘Handsome’ Chris has confirmed he will field his car fulltime at Peterborough in 2014, in search of his first career track championship.
“We were so close to our first championship last season”, said Mitchell. “A season long points battle with Craig Graham came down to the final night, and unfortunately we came up a couple markers short”
“I’m not one to give up on something”, continues the Peterborough-based veteran. “So, we’ve got a new chassis, new setup package and the same goal. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make every event, so I’m prepared to enlist the services of a backup driver if need be”
Chris Mitchell will return to action this Saturday, May 24th at Peterborough for Week 2 of the 2014 campaign.
Mitchell’s season is made possible thanks to support from Rockstar Energy Drink, Dent Dynamics, Earl Ireland Auto Sales, Triben Entertainment, Dan McHattie Race Cars, Klotz Fuels Canada and Kawartha Metals.
