COLDWATER, ON- In just his second start with the Ridge Road Racing team, third-generation star Jordan Latimer tallied his first career Thunder Car Top-5 finish.
“I’m so happy with our team, I can’t possibly thank these guys enough”, beamed Latimer in post-race technical inspection. “We struggled so much with this car last week, and these guys just kept working at it until we made it right. Then, tonight, they gave me one of the best cars on the track. Their dedication is pretty amazing”
The 15-year old started 5th in the veteran-heavy field, after a pair of top-5 finishes in his qualifying heat races.
“We had a great car all day”, explained Latimer. “The brake issues that we fought all last week were a distant memory. I feel more confident with this car every time I sit in it. Gord [Shepherd] has been the best driver coach I could’ve possibly asked for”
Latimer wasted little time advancing from his starting position, vaulting into 3rd spot by the end of the race’s first circuit.
“The car was real good at the beginning, definitely the best it had been all night”, said Latimer. “I felt like I could put this thing anywhere I needed it through the first 10 laps”
“It loosened up around halfway”, continued the affable high-school student. “We could’ve used a caution flag, to be honest. Our race went flag to flag, which I’m sure was awesome for the fans, but made it a little tougher to hang on to our car late in the run”
As the loose condition intensified, Latimer surrendered the 3rd position, instead tallying an impressive 4th place finish in just his second start of the 2014 season.
“I feel like we’re getting better every time we hit the track”, smiled Latimer. “I just couldn’t get off the corners as good as I needed to in the last few laps. The car kept wanting to kick sideways. We know what we need to do to make it better. We’ll have something more for this field next Saturday”
