NORTH TONAWANDA, NY (April 30, 2013) – Last year’s Pro Modified Racing Association winner at the Thunder Nationals at US 131 Motorsports Park said he will be ready for the upcoming race May 10-11 at the Martin, Michigan drag strip.
“We’re all set, we’ll be ready for May 10,” said Jack Grainy, driver of the Grainy Brothers 1967 Chevy Camaro out of North Tonawanda, New York. “The engine is in, the car is getting pinstriped, and we’ve put on a new front end, but it’s basically the same.”
The veteran team, which has been racing since the late 1960s, won the inaugural Martin PMRA race last year, defeating 2012 PMRA champion Eric Latino of Whitby, Ontario, in the process.
The win was the first for Grainy, who has been with the PMRA since its inception and first year of racing in 2005.
The G-Force Race Cars product is powered by a Mike Stawicki Racing 526-cubic inch Veney Hemi with a 14-71 PSI supercharger on top of the engine and a Lenco three-speed transmission behind it. The fuel system is courtesy of Stawicki, and the car has travelled down the quarter-mile just over six seconds at speeds over 251 mph.
Jack’s brother Sonny will remain as crew chief for the team, which includes Jack Grainy Jr. and Aggy Mudra. Niagara Auto and Grainy’s Automotive help with sponsorship.
The team did not race at all PMRA events in 2012, and had some car problems, but Grainy is hoping all the gremlins are fixed for the upcoming season.
“Last year wasn’t a great year for us. We had some breakage,” he said. “But this year we’re certainly going to give it a try.”
“And we’re also doing this to have a good time,” he added. “We really enjoy the series and being part of it and the people that make up the series.”
The 2013 PMRA season gets underway May 10-11 for the Thunder Nationals, the first of eight events for the series this year.
The Thunder Nationals will begin Friday, May 10 with qualifying at 6 pm. Qualifying will continue Saturday, May 11 at 2 pm with eliminations scheduled to begin at 7 pm. Also featured will be Jet Car action, Top Fuel Dragsters, and Super Stock racing.
