Gord 'The Smoke' Shepherd Hopes To Contend For His First Career Sunset Speedway Late Model Win On September 28th

ORO-STATION, ON- Eager to follow-up on an impressive 6th place finish at September 18th’s Canadian Limited Late Model Championship, Gord Shepherd is ready for this weekend’s ‘Velocity 250’ 2-day event.

‘The Smoke’ will enter the weekend riding a wave of momentum, having recently clinched his third career Barrie Speedway weekly championship.

“We’ve battled through a lot this season, but the car has been awesome the past month”, says Shepherd. “My guys have found something that seems to work for this car, and we’ve been fast anywhere we’ve gone with it. I expect a tonne of talent to show up to Sunset this weekend, and I hope to be able to run up front with them all day”

Shepherd’s Sunset Speedway program has improved in recent seasons, and the veteran knows a smart strategy will make all the difference in the 75-lap A Main.

“Sunset’s a track that gives you a lot of room to move”, explains Shepherd, “it’s not tough to pass guys, and you don’t have to use your stuff up to improve your position. It’s a place that lends itself to side-by-side racing all the way through the field, so even if you don’t have the qualifying effort you’re looking for, it’s still possible to pick your way through the pack in the feature”

“Our goal is just to save our equipment, keep the fenders on the car and be there at the end”, continues the 3-time Barrie Speedway titlist. “A lot can happen in 75-laps, if we can dodge the drama I think we’ll have a car capable of being in contention when it counts”
