Sophomore Nick Goetz has spent the last month preparing for his sophomore effort at Peterborough Speedway’s lauded Autumn Colours Classic. The Saugeen Shores, ON driver – just now finishing his second season of Late Model competition – will enter the October 11th, 12th and 13th weekend eager to follow up on the impressive 7th place finish he earned in 2012.
“Our first ‘Classic’ was such a learning experience for our entire team”, explains Goetz. “From how the pre-race tech procedure works, to mastering the right line to run to get the most out of your car, all of it was brand new”
Goetz will head to Peterborough this season under the tutelage of Ed Hakonson Racing driver Jason Hathaway, who has acted as a driver coach and mentor to Goetz during his sophomore season. ‘Livewire’ will also task EHR car chief Graham Annis with Crew Chief duties for the 3-night event.
“My relationship with Ed Hakonson Racing has helped immensely this season. I’ve learned so much from Jason [Hathaway] and the rest of the team, and I’m proud to call Graham Annis my crew chief. I feel as though we’ve assembled the right crew to put us in prime position to contend for a win on Sunday”
While only a sophomore competitor, Goetz understands the history of the ‘Classic’ weekend, and what a strong performance could mean to a young driver’s career.
“I feel, in many ways, that everything we’ve done all season has been practice for this one event”, admitted Goetz. “This is the one race that everyone wants, it would be such an honor to add my name to the list of drivers that have won this event. A podium finish would mean the world to our entire team”
Goetz will debut a brand new vinyl wrap at the event, promoting Breast Cancer Research and Awareness. Fans can catch a glimpse of the new scheme via the team’s Twitter account on Thursday afternoon.
