July 14, 2013- Sherwood Park, Alberta’s Noel Dowler and the #5 EMCO/Rheem Dodge looked for a change in fortune as the team began the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Western swing at Motoplex Speedway near Vernon, BC this past Saturday night. But even a very fast race car wasn’t enough to change their luck.
Throughout practice the #5 EMCO/Rheem Dodge was consistently quick and the team was optimistic of the evening ahead. As the green flag waved on the 300 lap feature event Dowler was quick to move forward from his starting position.
“The car felt absolutely great” said Dowler. “I was able to gain some spots right away.”
The #5 EMCO/Rheem Dodge team fortunes would change before too long when the fuel pump malfunctioned. The team worked as quickly as possible to make repairs but their hopes of a top finish were dashed.
Dowler continued to work hard in the #5 EMCO/Rheem Dodge but other mechanical issues would plague the team and it was a battle just to reach the finish.
“That’s three tough races in a row for us” said a disappointed driver after the race. “We’ll take some motivation knowing that the car was really fast and we get a chance to get back in action right away Wednesday in Saskatoon. I really like that track and look forward to getting back there. It’s time to get back on track”.
Despite the disappointment in BC after five events Noel Dowler sits ninth, only a point out of eight spot in the overall championship standings.
The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series consists of 12 events from coast to coast in Canada. The next event takes place at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon, SK this Wednesday July 17th.
