BRIGHTON, ON – August closed out with a hot streak and #11 Corey Earl is riding the wave. Earl did exactly what he needed to do the protect his Vanderlaan Building Supplies Late Model points lead by winning the feature, his fourth of the season and impressing the large crowd of loyal race fans of Brighton Speedway that were on hand to see another action packed night of excitement around the 1/3rd mile clay oval.
With the season nearing an end and points battles getting tight the racing was fierce from start to finish. PartSource of Belleville presented the hardware to Earl and the other feature winners in victory lane.
The Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks hit the track for the first of five feature events. With yet another checkered flag to his name a Championship run nearly sewn up “The Big Smooth” Doug Anderson wowed fans with his smooth driving style as he came in ahead of last week’s winner #23 Rob Perry. #36 Mitch Rosborough, #74 Mike Lucas and #83 Jay O’Hara would follow Anderson over the line.
The ever popular Gord’s Water Vantastics returned this week and it was new comer. Chris Rushford and Matt Pynenburg came all the way from Cornwall to drive his #22 Chevy Astro Van to victory lane. Another new comer #85 Britney Golden came home second in her first appearance.
It was the Vanderlaan’s Building Supplies Late Models to the track for the third feature. Points leader #11 Corey Earl came from deep in the field and took the victory over the Rookie #5 Steve Baldwin. Baldwin put a number of challenges on Earl but was unable to make the pass and settled for second. Following closely behind was another rookie #1 Shawn Gregory having his best finish of the season, #29 Phil Potts recovered from a lap 20 spin for forth and #92 Adam Turner remained consistent with his third 5th place finish in four weeks.
The finish on the Bainer’s Radiators Canadian Modified Division had fans and officials on their feet as #11 Kraig Handley, #13 Dale Locke, #11 Dan Ferguson and #19 Zeke McKeown crossed the start finish line practically on top of one another. Locke, the leader going into turn 4 for the final time bobble just enough for Handley to get the run coming off the top side, Ferguson drove down the inside and McKeown stuck it in the middle. The four wide finish had Handley picking up his first career Modified win with Locke holding second ahead of Ferguson and McKeown respectively. #48 Derrick Greig would finish out the top five. The 30 lap event was the culmination of the RONA Trenton Triple Crown Series that puts #11 Dan Ferguson at the top of this mini point’s series. Handley’s win earned him the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the week award.
For the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 feature, drivers seemed to be over anxious and it took a handful of restarts and some shuffling to get the race under way. Over the start finish line on the final lap was #3 Justin Ramsay, #43 Tom Vance, #44 Brandon Wilkie, #17 Jeff Humphry and #10 Travis McLean.
To finish off the night the Pro Stock Mechanics race hit the track and #12 Ryan Lambert took the win in his brother Shawn’s car.
