CAYUGA, ON – There was celebration in the Hinbest Racing camp as the team captured its first win in Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts competition. It was a great weekend, said Top Dragster driver Mike Hinbest of Orangeville, ON, who won the third race of the 2012 season. Everything came together.

With the supercharged-powered Mike Bos-chassied dragster, Hinbest, who qualified fourth in Top Dragster, defeated the Top Sportsman entry of Spencer Hyde of Stratford, ON, with his Hyde Racing 1968 Camaro.

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series is comprised of a 16-car Top Dragster field and 16-car Top Sportsman field. Each field races against each other, and the finalist in each races in an event final. The cars compete in a Sportsman-style, dial-in format using the full Christmas Tree at the starting line.

In the NAPA Auto Parts/Ideal Supply-sponsored car, Hinbest defeated Bill Moloughney of Shawville, QC, in the Top Dragster final, running a 6.604-second, 186.72 pass over Moloughney’s 6.753, 200.68. Hinbest was off first in the final, recording a reaction time of .051 seconds to Moloughney’s .084, and Moloughney could not catch Hinbest at the top end of the track.

On his way to the final, Hinbest eliminated Sydnie Hyde of Stratford, ON, in round one, Tony Positano of Toronto, ON, in round two, and Brody VanDerGeld of Cambridge, ON, in the semi.

Moloughney, who qualified ninth, took out Dave Leverentz of Irving, NY, Sam Christian of Kenmore, NY, and Victor Puglia of Clarence Center, NY, to meet up with Hinbest in the final.

On the Top Sportsman side, Hyde, who qualified fourth in the field, eliminated Steve Corriveau of Fonthill, ON, Dan Aitken Jr of Belle River, ON, and Darrin Grubb of Pine River, ON, to face Paul Martin of Breslau, ON, in the Top Sportsman final.

Martin qualified fifth, and eliminated Tony Madonia of Tonawanda, NY, 2011 Quick 32 Sportsman Series champion Phil Sampson of Granton, ON, and Bob Bauer Jr of Elma, NY, to meet Hyde in the final.

Hyde’s .023 reaction time at the line gave him the edge over Martin’s .040, and he went on to post a 7.014 at 197.25 over Martin’s 7.001 at 208.39.

Leverentz set the pace in Top Dragster with a 6.183, 223.02 attempt, while two-time champion Kevin Wicke of Stratford, ON, led the Top Sportsman cars with a 6.797, 203.28 run. Wicke was eliminated in first round action.

Hinbest was quick to thank his crew for their work.

“I have to thank my Dad and crew chief Roy Hinbest,” he said. “And to Katie, Robert, Stephen, and Kailynn for their work this weekend. They provided a great car for me to drive.”

“The car was consistent throughout,” he continued. “I was good at hitting the tree. The car was good, and the driver was good as well.”

With his Cayuga victory, Hinbest, who shares driving duties with teammate Katie Ward, now leads the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts Championship Point Award Standings with 698. Hyde is next with 658, and Top Dragster Mike Everitt of Stratford, Ontario, who lost in round two, is third with 645 points.

Fourth is Wicke with 640 points, and Aitken is in fifth with 632 points.

Next event in the six-race 2012 schedule is the Community Weekend event August 3-5 at Cayuga Dragway. Two companion series, the Pro Modified Racing Association, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series will also compete at this race, offering an exciting and complete package of drag racing action.

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series will race six times in 2012. The series also competes with its two companion series, the Pro Modified Racing Association and the Pro Bike & Sled Series, offering a solid and full package of drag racing action.
