OKLAHOMA CITY, OK- After three months on the shelf, Super Late Model frontrunner Donnie Wilson is set to kick off his 2015 season with the Southern Super Series sanctioned Rattler 250 on March 15 at South Alabama Speedway.
“Anytime you roll into a race like the Rattler, you want to make sure you find a way to the front,” says Wilson. “But, there’s definitely some added motivation when it’s the first race of the season. The performance we turn in this weekend could set the tone for our whole season”
Wilson is eager to return to action, after a successful 2014 campaign that saw him earn a trio of victories with the Southern Super Series.
“The 2014 season was good to us in a lot of ways, but I know there’s a lot of room for improvements,” explains Wilson. “There weren’t too many nights that we were out of contention last year, which is a huge accomplishment when you take a look at the caliber of competition we’re up against. With that being said, I know we have a team good enough to kick our win total up this season, and that’s our number one goal”
The veteran is no stranger to the Rattler 250 – having earned a runner-up finish in the 2011 edition of the event – and knows just what it takes to have a strong performance on Sunday afternoon.
“South Alabama can be real tough to pass on, so you want to make sure you have a car that can really cut on a dime and give you a good drive off,” says Wilson.
“We were really good here in 2011 and ended up having a great battle with Grant Enfinger. I’m hoping we can be just a little bit better this weekend and finally take that rattlesnake trophy home to Oklahoma”
“It can be easy to find yourself in some trouble if you’re not patient,” continues the veteran, “so we just have to be mindful of where we’re at on the track and how far along we are in the race. Hopefully we can save our stuff as much as possible in the early stages, and have just enough to make a difference in the last 100-laps.”
Donnie Wilson’s 2015 season is made possible thanks to Wilson’s Ford Parts and OKC Autoworks. Fans can stay up to date with Donnie all season long by visiting the official Donnie Wilson Racing page on Facebook.
