Mirabel, Que. July 7, 2013 – Ron Beauchamp Jr.’s qualifying went up in flames, literally, on Sunday at Circuit ICAR prior to the Jiffy Lube 100.

Practice foreshadowed a dubious weekend for #60, breaking an axle on the Mopar Parts/Exide/Pennzoil Dodge after only a couple of laps. The time to repair the vehicle prevented Beauchamp from participating in the second practice.

Qualifying presented its own set of hurdles, when fuel escaped through the quick fill spout and ignited out of the back of the car. The eruption set off the fire extinguisher in the back of the car, ending the team’s qualifying session.

Beauchamp inhaled some of the extinguished fumes, but after a medical evaluation was cleared to get back behind the wheel.

The interrupted qualifying relegated Beauchamp and his Mopar Parts/Exide/Pennzoil Dodge to the back of the field for the main event. #60 battled hard to move forward in the field, but was unable to gain much ground. The team struggled with a car they had little time to adjust.

“When you don’t have a chance to see how changes will affect the car, it can hamper your race results and that bit us,” Beauchamp said afterwards.

The lack of track time during practice and qualifying surely contributed to the team’s race struggles, and Beauchamp crossed the finish line in 15th place.

“It’s disappointing because even though we only had a few laps we felt the car was really good,” he said. “We picked up a few points in the overall championship which is a small consolation.”

#60 and the team return to the track next week for the A&W 300 at the Motoplex Speedway and Event Park. Stakes are high for Beauchamp, as he earned pole position in 2012’s contest at the Motoplex.

“We’re excited to be heading out west and getting back on the ovals, both tracks suit us and we run well there,” Beauchamp said.
