SAUBLE BEACH, ON- After tallying back-to-back top-3 finishes to open up his campaign for a third straight Sauble Speedway championship, Scott McTeer broke through for his first win of the season on June 21st.
“These wins don’t ever get any easier”, smiled McTeer upon climbing from his race-winning ride. “I have to thank [Jason] Parker for running me so clean. I’ll run side-by-side with him any day of the week”
“We’ve been experimenting with a few different setup packages this season, but tonight we went back to the same combination we used throughout last season”, continued McTeer. “I felt as though we were headed a bit off-course with this car, I’m happy we were able to regroup and get back to victory lane”
The Tiverton, ON driver started deep in the 35-lap event, and was fortunate to snatch an opportunity early to work his way to the front.
“I have to tip my hat to my spotter [brother-in-law Mike Gilliland] for doing such a great job early on in the race”, explained McTeer. “It was a frenzy in the first few laps, and we got trapped on the outside with nowhere to go. Mike did a great job finding me a hole to squeeze in just ahead of [Mark] Dilley, which allowed us to start moving forward in the bottom groove”
From there, McTeer was able to pull to the rear bumper of Parker, in a battle that lasted to the race’s dying laps.
“That was a lot of fun. I think Jason and I are pretty evenly matched”, said McTeer. “We were better getting into the corner, and he was better getting off the corner. I did my best just to stay with him until the end, and then went for it”
“Thankfully, it paid off and we were able to pass him”
With their first win of the season, McTeer and his M3 Motorsports team are already making plans to improve their McColl Racing Enterprises chassis for Sauble’s June 28th event.
“It almost feels like we stole this win tonight”, shrugged McTeer. “The car is still a little off, and I know we can make it a lot better. We’re moving in the right direction, which is fantastic, but I still feel as though we have work to do”
Scott McTeer and M3 Motorsports would like to thank Lake Huron Rod & Gun, www.SecretsOfTuscany.com, Expressway Trucks, McGee Motors Ltd. and Carey Optical for their continue support.
