PETERBOROUGH, ON (May 4, 2021)- Delays are nothing new to racers at any level. Yellow flags, weather and mechanical issues can slow down the show. Despite planning a full schedule of events, the Coronavirus Pandemic limited teams with the Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series to just a pair of September outings in 2020. Hopes for a fresh start in 2021 were once again dashed by COVID 19, just a couple of months shy of Peterborough Speedway’s anticipated Saturday, May 22 regular season kick-off.

Turning laps with the Legends Series is the only brand of motorsports on Dawson Drimmie’s racing resume. The 21-year-old from Peterborough, Ontario was named rookie of the year for the 2017 season, has about a handful of qualifying heat wins to his credit and finished fourth in 2019 tour points. After finishing his Pre-Health Sciences diploma at Sir Sanford Fleming College, the youngster is anxious to get back to the track.

“We’ll be ready whenever the green flag waves,” said the confident hometown runner. “There is only so much time you can spend deleting items from the off-season checklist. Like everyone else, I’m ready to race and can’t wait to show our loyal fans what they’ve been missing.”

Drimmie lists his father Jeff as the pit crew of his No. 66 Kawartha Outdoor Décor, KOD Disposal backed machine, but in reality, the Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series’ driver roster is like one big happy family. Everyone is chasing the checkered flag but they’re all ready and willing to lend a hand in the shop or some helpful advice at the racetrack.

“I might not have the same knowledge or experience as some of the others in the field but my comfort level increases every time I climb in behind the wheel,” said the driver, who works part-time at Giant Tiger in addition to beginning his studies in the nursing program this fall. “I’ll continue to learn and hopefully pick up a main event win before too much longer.”

Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says he’s excited to have the Ontario Legends Series on the program when Peterborough Speedway rolls the latest version of its 2021 schedule to the starting line. Subject to provincial government approval, guidelines and COVID 19 protocol, plans are to open Saturday, June 5th and run biweekly events until Labour Day weekend.

“Our team of staff and officials have a lot of planning and work to do behind the scenes before we can get the ball rolling,” said Josiasse. “We’re determined to have racing return but our immediate priority is the safety and wellbeing of fans, race teams, staff and officials. When action resumes, full COVID 19 screening will be followed, with facemasks and social distancing mandatory.”
