In this week’s tight edition of Dave Mathers’ Motion Motorsport Report, NASCAR is set to return to Daytona International Speedway for the start of its regular seasons for its Cup, Xfinity and Truck Series.
NASCAR CUP SERIES: We now get to see the Next Gen cars with their new body styles along with the other 2022 innovations (single lug nut, trans axle/IRS, bigger brakes along with 18″ wheels/tires) in action on the big track.
Action begins Wednesday night at 8 p.m. on Fox Sports Racing (thank you Rogers!) with qualifying for Thursday’s duels. The duels go Thursday at 2, also on Fox Sports Racing, our Canadian ‘hybrid’!!
Canada’s F1 champ, Jacques Villeneuve, is attempting to qualify for the 500 again this year.

The big race – the Daytona 500 – goes Sunday at 2.30 p.m. on both TSN and Fox. New cars, new teams, new drivers and new excitement! Bring it!
NASCAR XFINITY SERIES: They run Saturday at 5 p.m. on TSN 5. Watch for Canadian Alex Labbé – a former Pinty’s Series champion – in this one.

NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCKS: They open their season Friday night at 7:30 p.m. on Fox Sports Racing. BC’s Jason White will be back in the field for this race. He’s also competing in the ARCA race again.

NASCAR PINTY’S SERIES: Still a ways away until they get going. Canada’s NASCAR championship takes the green flag May 14 at Sunset Speedway.
APC SERIES: This fast-growing series opens May 21 at Sunset Speedway.
IMSA: Their next race is The Twelve Hours of Sebring, March 19.
FORMULA ONE: They start their season on March 20 at Bahrain. After some off-season teasing, it appears Lewis Hamilton will be part of the series again, in 2022. Prior to Bahrain, teams are unveiling their new cars.
NHRA: They return to action this weekend for the Winternationals at Pomona.
IndyCar: Their first race of the season takes place on the ‘Streets of St. Petersburg’ on February 27 in Florida.
Until next week!!
