August 10, 2013- It was another great night of racing at “The BOS” on Saturday night as Trailer Country was on hand for a full program plus the first of back-to-back appearances for the Ford Dingwall Vintage Series.
The 358 Modifieds were set to go as 22 drivers took to the speedway.
Dave Austin and Luke Stewart strated on the front row with Stewart taking the top spot away as hte pair headed into Turn 1.
The yellow flew right away, as on the opening lap, Tim O’Brien, Adam Moore and April Wilson came together in Turn 2, although all drivers were able to pull away.
On the restart Stewart had a great race car and used the top side of the speedway to pull out to a four car length advantage, but the man on the charge was Danny O’Brien.
After two rough weeks, O’Brien started in spot number three and quickly made his way to the lead, passing Stewart on Lap 3. Once in front O’Brien made it look easy as he pulled out to a huge lead.
Meanwhile, behind him Luke Stewart had his hands full with four-time track champion Lee Gill. The two drivers battled hard for the second spot until Gill was able to take it away, bringing Pat O’Brien with him.
Several mid race cautions bunched up the field giving Gill and Pat O’Brien a clear shot at the leader.
When the green came back out Danny O’Brien continued his dominant performance as Pat O’Brien was able to wrestle the second spot away down the back stretch.
Kyle Dingwall, the defending track champion was the biggest mover of the night. After starting 12th he battled with Luke Stewart in the closing laps and would eventually take away the number four position. However despite late cautions and heavy lapped traffic Danny O’Brien was back in fine form taking his brand new car to Victory Lane for the fifth time this season. Older brother Pat O’Brien settled for second followed by Lee Gill, Kyle Dingwall and Luke Stewart.
The Sportsman division was ready for battle on this night as well as Tabatha Murphy and Jonathan Ferguson charged into Turn 1 with Ferguson getting the early advantage.
Ferguson would lead the opening three laps until the yellow flew for Aaron Pugh, who spun in Turn 2.
On the restart Murphy was able to get a great restart to take over the top spot heading into Turns 1 & 2 with Ferguson, Steve Barber, Jessica Power and Kenny Polite making up the top five early on. Murphy had a strong race car and would hold the top spot for the next several laps but Ferguson was charging hard after the leader.
The top two put on a fantastic show for the fans as both Murphy and Ferguson raced wheel to wheel for the next nine laps, but Murphy was able to hold off all challenges to stay at the top of the field.
The yellow would fly again just before the halfway point as Chris Herbison and Kurtis Lee came together in Turn 2.
When the green flew Murphy was on the charge as she held onto the lead but Dylan Evoy was the man on the move. Evoy started in 14th and made his way to third by Lap 13. Using the bottom side of the race track Evoy was able to take second from Ferguson as laps wound down, and quickly closed in on the leader.
With 10 to go Evoy used a power move on the bottom off Turn 2 to take over the top spot over Murphy, Ferguson Barber and Jessica Power. Once in front Evoy was the fastest car on the race track building up a full straightaway lead on the rest of the field.
Evoy has struggled at Brockville in 2013 but he put it all together again to claim his second win in a row over Murphy, Steve Barber, Ferguson and Jessica Power.
The Rookie Sportsman division was ready to tackle the fast racing surface on this night.
Jeremy Coulter and Richard Raison led the field to the start of the 15 lap event with Coulter taking away the top spot.
Coulter had been away from the speedway for a couple weeks and it seemed to recharge himself and his team as he pulled away from everybody in the opening laps. Josh Powers brought out the first yellow of the day as he spun in Turn 3.
On the restart Coulter would keep the roll going as he pulled out to another huge lead but the driver charging hard was points leader Chris Bakker. After starting seventh on the grid, he would work his way into the top three, getting by Richard Raison with just five laps to go.
Coulter had everything going his way as he scored his first ever Sportsman win over Tristan Draper, Chris Bakker, Richard Raison and Jamie Young.
The Street Stock division has seen nine different winners in 10 races this year and with another quality field another different winner was not out of the question.
Travis Andrews took the lead at the start of the 15 lap affair over Selena Simzer and Alex Gagnon. Andrews was charging hard on this night but Gagnon had a fast car and was able to take the lead away on Lap 6.
Just past the halfway point Kevin Fetterly Jr. and Darrick Eaton tangled on the backstretch. As the driverts sat in the middle of the race track Eaton’s car was hit hard in the right side forcing him pitside for the night. In the closing laps John Gifford was looking to make it win number two of the year coming from ninth to second, but Alex Gagnon was too strong on this night as he became the tenth different winner this year in Street Stock over Gifford, Pascal Racette, Kevin Fetterly Jr., and Danny Mocibob.
The Rookie class is always exciting to watch and Corbin Miller was looking to get back into Victory Lane as he charged from his fourth starting position to grab the early race lead.
Miller would lead the opening six laps as the two early yellows would fly, both for Mike McGonegal as he had problems in Turn 2.
On the restart Miller would try to fend of three-time winner Quincy Roberts. The two drivers have had a great championship battle all year and have been the class of the field each week.
Roberts closed in on Miller with five laps to go in the 15 lap event and the chase was on. With three-to-go, Miller’s car slowed as he cut down a right front tire handing the lead over to Quincy Roberts.
Once in front Roberts made it look easy as he scored his second in a row and fourth of the season over Scott McGill, Kurtis Daye, Tyson Slinger and Josh Kirkland.
In the Ford Dingwall Vintage Series, a pair of former Sportsman drivers led the field to Gary Vandermeer’s green flag with Jason Powers and Dave Wilgosh charged hard into Turn 1, Powers getting the top spot away.
Jason began his season in the Sportsman class but made his return to the Vintage divsion and did not look out of place on this night. Both Powers and Wilgosh had fast cars and pulled out a straightaway over the battle for third, which was a great one between Phil Ross, Paul Billings and Denzil Billings Jr.
Even with late race yellow flags, Jason Powers would lead all 15 laps for the big win over Wilgosh. Steve Arbuthnot would charge from ninth to finish up third on the night followed by Phill Ross and Paul Billings.
Next week Jim’s Performance Plus will be on hand for another round of the Ford Dingwall Vintage Series plus a full show in all five classes. The green flag drops at 7pm.
