INVERARY, Ont. (August 7, 2018) – Danny O’Brien turned in another impressive doubleheader weekend to start the month of August as the veteran driver of the 1000 Islands RV Centre No.17d DIRTcar 358 Modified raced to a pair of top-five finishes, including his seventh win of the season on Saturday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway.

O’Brien started the weekend with a trip to Can-Am Speeway in Lafargeville, NY where he earned a third-place finish in the main event.

“We started 10th at Can-Am on Friday night and got up to third,” O’Brien said. “The car was good. It was a one lane racetrack and hard to pass.”

On Saturday, O’Brien returned to Brockville where he notched a fourth-place finish in his heat race and moved on to start 10th for the 30-lap main event.

“There wasn’t a lot of passing in the heat races, so that lined us up 10th,” O’Brien recalled. “We just slowly picked away at it. There was one restart where there was some oil on the bottom, so I gained a few spots on the outside. Then we just started picking them off.”

The task to drive forward was a challenging one as O’Brien battled the tough cast of characters on a very dry-slick racetrack.

“It was very black,” O’Brien said. “It was heavy the week before because it rained. He was expecting rain this week on race day, but we didn’t get it. It was still a good, racey track from top to bottom, but it was typical summer dry and smooth, so that’s all that mattered.”

The winning pass came in the closing laps as Danny ran down his brother Tim to steal his seventh victory of the season and fifth at Brockville.

“(Tim) was going good this week and his car just started to fade late in the race,” Danny said. “I got him under green coming out of turn two on the bottom. Sometimes being second on a track like that is better than being first because you can move around and find different lanes. This one week that paid off.”

The win was also the 180th 358 Modified win of O’Brien’s career under the DIRTcar banner, moving him into third on the all-time win list.

“That’s pretty cool, considering a lot of my 358 career has been out of my own garage with my own guys, so it’s been without any big team sponsorship,” O’Brien said.

O’Brien plans to return to action at Brockville Ontario Speedway on Wednesday, August 8 for the 110-lap and $10,000-to-win “Bullringer” for 358 Modifieds. The DIRTcar Sportsman are also on the schedule for a 110-lap and $2,000-to-win race. Race time is 7:00pm. For additional event information, visit www.brockvillespeedway.com.
