SHAKESPEARE, ON- One week after suffering significant front end damage in Round 9 of the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour at Sunset Speedway, Corey Jones has confirmed he will return to competition tonight in Round 10 at Peterborough Speedway.
“This all came together pretty quickly, it’s definitely a pleasant surprise”, explains Jones. “We had initially targeted Round 11 at Sunset at the end of September to be our first race back. Luckily, a few very late nights in the shop have put us way ahead of schedule”
Jones demolished the front end of his No. 82 Castle Building Centres/RBC Chevrolet in a mid-race wreck at Sunset, requiring the replacement of the entire front suspension of the lone chassis in his family-run stable.
After enlisting the services of famed chassis guru Junior Hanley, Jones and his J Star Motorsports squad have completed the repairs and will be back in search of their first top-5 of the season at Peterborough.
“I really am speechless that we’re ready to race this soon”, smiles Jones. “I can’t ever say enough about Junior Hanley. The man is a magician. A few all-nighters later, and the No. 82 is ready to race again”
“Our sponsors were so supportive through the past week, I’m thrilled to be able to get back on track and represent them”, continues Jones. “I can’t thank them enough for their continuous support”
The August 30th event will mark Jones’ second career start at Peterborough, and the freshman is anticipating a steep learning curve at the demanding 1/3-mile oval.
“I haven’t had a lot of laps around Peterborough, so I’ve been leaning on [teammate] Shane Gowan and Junior [Hanley] for advice”, says Jones. “We had a 12th place finish our first time there, so we definitely have something solid to build off of”
“The first couple practice sessions are likely going to be an extended shakedown session for us. We want to make sure the car is 100% and ready to go before we start pushing it too hard”
Details for tonight’s event at Peterborough Speedway can be found at www.PeterboroughSpeedway.com.
Corey Jones’ and the J Star Motorsports team would like to thank Castle Building Centres, RBC, Accountable Automotive, Dan Simpson – RBC Mortgage Specialist, Lafleche Roofing, Anmar Cleaning Services, Inno-Tech, Ken Robinson Refrigeration, Oktane Productions, Epic Racewear and Westmeadow Dental for their unwavering support through the 2014 OSCAAR Super Late Model season.
