SOUTHAMPTON, ON- A much needed two-week rest period has third-year Ltd. Late Model competitor Nick Goetz ready to return to action at Sunset Speedway on August 30th.
“Two weeks off was a blessing at this point of the season”, says the personable up-and-comer. “I think what some people don’t understand is how much work goes in to just maintaining these cars. The season is such a grind, when you get to August you’re really scrambling to keep up with everything and keep everything running the way you want it to”
Goetz’s first full season at Sunset Speedway has been wrought with ups-and-downs, though through it all ‘Livewire’ maintains a positive outlook amidst admirable dedication.
“I want to be a contender”, says Goetz matter-of-factly. “We came over to Sunset because this is where the competition is. Running against these guys on a weekly basis is the best way to learn”
“I’m not looking to become an overnight sensation. That’s just not reasonable. But, I am looking to improve every time we back this car out of the trailer. I’m 100% committed. I’m fortunate to be surrounded by some phenomenal people in [McColl Racing Enterprises’] Mike McColl, [Driver Coach] Jason Hathaway and [Crew Chief] Graham Annis. We have the tools to build a race winning team, it’s just going to take some time”
As the season begins to wind to a close, it’s clear Goetz is looking to focus on a strong finish to 2014 – both at Sunset and on the road.
“We’ve got fantastic equipment, and I want more than anything to get it to the top-5 on a regular basis”, explains the Southampton, ON driver.
“I’ve been working closely with Jason and Graham and we’ve really hit on a few things the last couple times out”, continues Goetz. “A few solid runs at Sunset as we begin to head towards the Playoff Season would mean the world to our team”
Nick Goetz will be in action at Sunset Speedway tonight – August 30th – in a 50-lap Ltd. Late Model ‘Super Series’ event. Details can be found at www.SunsetSpeedway.ca.
