INNISFIL, ON- ‘Mr. Excitement’ Chris Morrow survived a late-race blitz from Dwayne Baker to earn his second victory of the young 2014 season, claiming the first event of the Sunset Speedway Super Series.

The Anten Mills, ON veteran started on pole by virtue of the redraw, alongside the aforementioned Baker.

The two veterans would swap the lead in the race’s early goings, with defending Sunset champion Mike ‘Lights Out’ Bentley completing the 3-car battle for much of the 50-lap event.

Baker would put forth a late-race run, but could not find a way past 7-time champion Morrow.

“This was a good run from the get go, we won our heat race, we were good in practice, I love this new format”

Morrow was quick to credit the young fan that helped put the No. 11 on pole, “Have to thank the young gentleman who drew number 1 for me, he can come every week as far as I’m concerned!”

“This was a great race tonight”, added Morrow. “Bentley, Baker, Witty all spent time at the front. This was a lot of fun”

“I’m happy we didn’t get a final caution”, admitted the winner. “Because, having Baker on the outside is tough. A driver can carry so much momentum on the outside, it’s tough to hold them off”

In Super Stock competition, Lane Zardo completed his Hat Trick, after claiming both his Heat race and Dash For Cash earlier in the evening. Zardo endeared himself to the crowd after a spectacular side-by-side battle with reigning division champion Randy Rusnell.

Karting graduate Miles Tyson outran fellow Mini Stock standout Brandon McFerran to earn his first career Mini Stock Victory.
