PETERBOROUGH, ON (May 31, 2022)_ Hometown racing returned to Central Ontario Saturday, May 28 as Peterborough Speedway kicked-off its 2022 season. The Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, presented by GEN-3 Electrical opened a new schedule, with Chad Strawn wheeling his No. 77 machine into victory lane.
With Randy Hollingsworth and Bob Franks on the front row, Strawn – who had started outside the second row – wasted little time moving to the head of the pack, as a three-wide battle for the lead developed before the field had scored as much as a single lap. The pace was slowed for the race’s first yellow flag with three laps showing on the board.
Multi-time series champion John Baker Jr. moved into the runner-up spot on the restart, with Rob Richards – in his maiden voyage with OMRS – sitting third. Another caution, with 8 laps complete saw Baker Jr.’s No. 63 ride head to the infield pit lane with rear-end issues that brought his season opening run to an end. That opened the door for Alex Cuzzilla to take the second spot but try as he might, he couldn’t wrestle the lead away from Strawn who scored the opening round win.
Richards, Tyler Bouillon – who was also making his first start with the tour – Rick Warnes, Bob Franks, Rob Warnes, Willow Barberstock, Randy Hollingsworth and John Baker Jr. rounded-out the top 10 finishers.
