@Sunset_Speedway • Stroud, ON (May 20)- This past weekend, the Hoosier OSCAAR Modifieds opened their season at Sunset Speedway as part of the Hoosier Spring Velocity. Despite a spark plug wire falling off early in the feature, Chad Strawn brought the No. 77 Eibach/Mild 2 Wild/Kingsmen Kustoms/ Modified home in the fourth spot.
The defending event winner started off the night with speed on his side, winning the first heat, before finishing fifth in the second heat. As a result of his qualifying effort and the invert, he would start the feature from the second spot.
Strawn got off to a good start in the feature, battling Shane Stickel for the lead off the drop of the green flag. Stickel would grab the advantage on lap two as Strawn slipped back to fourth behind Gary McLean and Cory Horner. Strawn would battle back, though, getting alongside Horner for third, but was unable to complete the pass before the fist caution came out.
Strawn got a solid restart, continuing to hold on to the fourth spot. He would then catch Cory Horner for third, completing the pass on lap 17. He continued to hold the spot, even though he got right sideways off the corner at one point, till the second caution flew with four laps to go for a spin off of turn four.
On the restart, Strawn would get passed by Cory Horner, resulting in a solid fourth place finish to start the season.
The Hoosier OSCAAR Modifieds will get a week off from competition before heading to Flamboro Speedway on May 30th. Strawn has ran some laps at Flamboro Speedway already this year as part of the Ontario Modified Racing Series, showing a ton of speed as he led a bunch of laps.
