@CaydenLapcevich @UnitedLMSeries @Sunset_Speedway GRIMSBY, ON- Reigning Sunset Speedway Super Stock champion Cayden Lapcevich will be back behind the wheel of a Pro Late Model this Sunday at Sunset Speedway, as he prepares to match up against some of the top drivers in Ontario in Round 7 of the APC United Late Model Series presented by Grisdale Racing Products.
“I just wanna come out and put together the performance that I know this team is capable of,” says Lapcevich when asked about his team’s goals for the 100-lap race. “Terry [Baker] has an absolute rocketship of a car, and I can’t wait to get back in it. We had an awesome run going in May and just got caught up in a wreck and couldn’t finish what we started. It’s an honour to drive for him, and I can’t thank him enough for the opportunity to race against some of the guys I grew up watching”
After running in the top-5 in his previous series start on May 23rd at Sunset, ‘The Prodigy’ hopes to once again drive his way to the front in the veteran-heavy field.
“I love racing against the best teams in the sport. And, right now, the APC Series has some of the absolute best guys in Ontario,” explains the 15-year old. “When we ran the tour event in the Spring, I caught myself looking around during driver introductions and being blown away at the calibre of teams we were about to race with. It was a surreal feeling. I’m looking forward to getting that back on Sunday”
“We’re planning on approaching this race in the same way we do our [NASCAR] Canadian Tire Series events,” continues the third-generation star. “If we can take care of our stuff, we’re confident we’ll have enough to make a run in the late stages. We know we have a great package. We know we can do this”
Despite suffering a disappointing DNF in Round 1 of the tour, Lapcevich insists he does not plan on suffering the same fate twice.
“We had a car to win last time, and I just messed up and got caught in a bad spot,” shrugs Lapcevich. “That won’t happen again. I fully intend on doing everything in my power to give this team a run that they can be proud of.”
When asked what a big performance would mean to him, Cayden does not hesitate to express his respect for the uber-talented APC Series roster.
“Some of the guys we’re competing against have been racing these cars for their entire career,” says the high-school student. “A strong run against them would be a huge confidence boost. And somehow, if we could win, it would top just about everything I’ve ever done in a stock car. Every position you make up on the track against these guys takes a lot of work, but it’s an awesome feeling. We know what we’re out there against, and we can’t wait to see what we can do.”
Cayden Lapcevich’s APC United Late Model Series return is made possible thanks to Terry Baker Racing, Baker Performance of Hamilton, Ohsweken Speedway, Fastline Motorsports, Bryan’s Auction Center, JustJunk.com of Hamilton, Permatex, NAPA (Barton Auto Parts Group), Tim Hortons, Castrol, Cathcart Trucking, Springers Meats, Troy Cove Marine and EPIC Racewear.
