INNSFIL, Ontario (May 3, 2017) — On the opening night of the season at Sunset Speedway, Cameron McGlashan put together a career night as he scored his first career mini stock heat victory, before finishing second in the 25-lap feature.
The third-year driver started off the night by winning his first heat just ahead of past division champion Doug Butler, before placing second in the next heat.
The qualifiers set him up well for the feature, as he’d start second and was able to battle side-by-side with Warren Paxton for the lead for the first seven laps, before Paxton cleared him for the spot. Despite slipping back to third two laps later virtue of eventual race winner Andy Kamrath, McGlashan was able to keep up with the pair of leaders and passed Paxton back on Lap 13 for second. Looking to have a strong car on the long run, he began to close on Kamrath as they negotiated lap traffic, with the caution flying on Lap 15. The late caution did not work out in his favor as he was unable to find a way around Kamrath, crossing the finish line in second.
McGlashan left the speedway with a smile on his face, saying “finishing second to Kamrath is like a win” as the pair currently sit tied for the division points lead.
McGlashan will be back at Sunset Speedway on May 6 in hopes of continuing this early season success.
