Stroud, ON (May 30, 2017)- Despite running into a mechanical problem in practice, Cameron McGlashan was able to walk away from Saturday night at Sunset Speedway with a top-10 feature finish.
Looking to build off last week’s top-five Spring Velocity performance, McGlashan began the night off with practice in hopes to make the right necessary adjustments to his No. 83 Mustang. Things did not go as planned as the starter gear came off and blew a hole the size of a basket in the bell housing. As a result, the car was loaded and it appeared the night was over already.
However, plans were put in motion with McGlashan’s teammate Robert Toope offering up his No. 25 Mustang for McGlashan to drive for the night and remain in the points hunt.
After running the pair of heats to kick off the night, he set himself up to start 24th for the 25-lap feature. Adversity was thrown his way once again, though, as he spun on Lap 4 in turn two. Restarting at the tail of the field, he began to make up ground immediately, running 11th when the caution waved with seven laps to go.
He was able to make one final pass in the closing laps, crossing the finish line in the 10th position.
“Great job by all the guys on the team battling through a really tough night,” McGlashan commented following the night. “Robert Toope, you sir are a stand up giving me your car tonight! You saved my season for sure; you’re a hell of friend!”
While it wasn’t the night the team anticipated, McGlashan has yet to finish outside of the top-10 this season, highlighted by a runner-up on opening night. They’ll try to keep the momentum rolling this weekend in the fourth night of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points competition on Saturday, June 3. It is fan appreciation night so be sure to get there early and get McGlashan’s autograph.
