@bos_speedway •Brockville, ON (May 09, 2016)- The pre-season checklist is nearly complete and just a handful of housekeeping items remain before Brockville Ontario Speedway kicks-off a new season of action Saturday night. The popular 3/8th mile oval – on Temperance Lake Road – north of the city roars to life with the track’s regular divisions – the DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds, Rookie Sportsman, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks – presented by 103.7 BOB-FM, Kayden Construction and Kitley Collision. Track owner and promoter Paul Kirkland says that excitement continues to build as the season opener grows closer.
“We’ve put in a lot of time and effort since the final checkered flag of last year’s Fall Nationals to make things better for the spectators and the drivers,” said Kirkland. “For the fans, the price for a season grandstand admission pass – for 18 Saturday nights, except the Nationals – is just $195, the same as last year; while children 14 and under are now admitted free with an adult. One of the first things that race teams will notice is that the front stretch retaining wall has been extended and the safety barrier is also in place along the pit wall, with new concrete poured just last week.”
When it comes to the Ogilvie’s Auto & Fleet Triple Crown Series – May 28th, June 25th and August 6th – drivers in the DIRTcar 358 Mod and Sportsman Modified divisions will compete for a shared point fund of $55,000. That should draw an impressive crowd, looking to unseat 2015 series champions Gage Morin and Dylan Evoy. Other highlights of the new schedule include a pair of Patriot Sprint Tour shows, July 16th and August 20th. The calendar wraps-up with the running of the annual 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals, October 14th and 15th.
Based on some early expectations, Kirkland says there should be some strong numbers on each side of the fence for the Saturday, May 14th season opener. In the pit area, it’ll be a homecoming of sorts as Chris Herbison returns to the Stewart’s Racing #63, as the team makes the move into the Small Block Modified division. Tim O’Brien will be back with the Jim’s Performance #88, where Herbison spent most of last year. Jeremy LaSalle will take the step into the 358 Mods, with help from Dale Planck, who will run a limited schedule in the team’s #M96 ride.
Saturday night short track news: Regular race programs – with the exception of the Saturday, October 15th event at the Northeast Fall Nationals – begin at 7:00, with the spectator grandstands opening at 5:00.
