VICTORIA, BC – This Saturday at the fast 4/10’s mile paved oval in Langford, Western Speedway presents Car Load Night. For $30 you can put as many people as you can legally into your car and enjoy a great night of racing action as the Richlock Rentals WILROC non Wing Sprints Cars, Island Series Stock Cars, IMS4 Mini Stocks, Island Dwarf Cars and the Hornets will all be in action.
In the Richlock Rentals WILROC Non Wing Sprint Car division, Campbell River driver Mark Stewart is looking to start 2013 the same as 2102 by winning the first two main events at Western. Stewart took the win at the opener on May 4th over 2012 Champion Jeff Bird from Shawnigan Lake, with Mike Haslam coming home third. Other drivers hoping to break into the winner’s circle include Chris Root from Sidney, Saanichton’s Matt Verhagen, Joe Dardengo, Jim Giles and the team of Bickforf /Morneau. Up Island drivers slated to compete are Lance Wade from Courtenay, Shane Woolcock from Cedar, Duane Zeinstra from Campbell River and Mark Gail from Nanaimo.
The Island Series Stock Cars point’s leader Daryl Crocker will be going after his first win of the year after a second and third place finish in the first two events of the year. Crocker has a 6 point lead 360 to 354 over the May 18th race winner Dave Reside and Kevin Knight who are tied for second. Chris McInerney was the winner of the opening race on May 4th sits in third position. A pair of former Stock Car Champions will also be looking to end up with the victory include Brian Clutchey who has had car troubles in the first two events and five time Champion Ryan Wade who will be making his first start of the year. Other driver’s expected are 2012 Rookie of the year Brandon Steen, 2012 Championship race winner Kevin Knight, and Shane Scott who finished second at the last event
The Island Dwarf Car Club will make their second start of the year, and can expect to bring a good field of the 5/8’s scaled cars from the 30’s and 40’s that are powered by motorcycle engines. Nanaimo’s Dave Emmerson will be looking to make it two wins in a row, but can expect a tough challenge from fellow Nanaimo driver Mike Schott. Local driver’s that make up a strong contingent include Shaun Watt, Miles Maxi, Tovay Helgesen and Rookie driver Ryan Orchard.
The IMS4 Mini Stocks sees two time Champions Alex Mouner leading the point standings after the first two events of the year, Mouner picked up the win at the last event on May 18 the seen two of his top competitors drop out early. 2012 Champion Jeremy Waksell had engine problems and former champion Justin Woodske received front end damage from a on track incident.
The Hornets will make the their second of six appearances on the big track, Daryl Cahill won the opener followed by Cam Stanfield and Brad Aumen. This year there will be a big track Champion and a small track Champion that will run on Wednesday Night’s starting on June 19th.
The next event at Western Speedway will Saturday June 8th for the rescheduled O’Dell Slinger Service Princess and Pirate Night presented by Islandcarbuyer.com that will feature Fireworks, the popular Boat Race along with LORDCO Auto Parts Series for Demo Car and Trucks, Bombers and Mini Figure 8’s.
The front gates open at 4:30 pm, qualifying at 5:30 and racing at 6:30 pm.
