CARRYING PLACE, ON – Caley Weese charged to another top-three finish Saturday at Brighton Speedway. The driver of the #77 Dibbits Excavating Pro Late Model battled across the finish line with fellow competitor Corey Earl, missing the 2nd position by mere feet. The female racer was slightly disappointed with the finish after running 2nd for most of the laps in the 30-lap feature event.
“We could have been a bit better in the main event, but all in all we had a solid run and I know how to build on it for next week,” said Weese. She started 7th in the feature and had a 3rd place finish in the qualifier showing consistency.
Weese is certainly not new to the Pro Late Model division having started with the class in 2010, but she is certainly new to her new “Rocket” ride. After a high-speed wreck in Granby, QC, with the World of Outlaw Late Models, Caley was left with nothing more than a wrecked race car when the checkered flag flew.
Fellow Late Model driver Greg Belyea stepped beyond his role as a competitor and offered the Weese Racing Team his spare Excel Tower Services late model to get Caley back on the track. After a few short weeks behind the wheel of the different “Rocket” style chassis Weese couldn’t be happier. “We haven’t got a win yet, but we’re really close and get better each week,” said the young driver excitedly. Caley hasn’t finished outside the top five in a feature event since taking the reins of the new car.
There’s still several weeks left in race season, but just one month left until the Weese Racing “No Bull – Anti-bullying Campaign” event takes place at Brighton Speedway on September 2. In a fight against bullying, Caley and her team have committed their race car, team wear and themselves to this campaign for the 2012 season. With almost 500 pink shirts sold the team can’t wait to see the sea of pink shirts in the grandstands Labour Day weekend. To purchase a pink anti-bullying shirt visit www.weeseracing.com.
