NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL- Brandon Watson continued his improvement through New Smyrna Speedway’s World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, earning a week-long best 7th in Night 6 competition at the Central Florida half-mile.
The third-generation driver ran within the top-10 throughout the 35-lap affair, racing side-by-side with some of North America’s best talent.
“We’ve been saying all week how stacked this roster is”, Watson explained. “You have to battle for every single spot here. It’s the type of competition our team lives for”.
The team improved upon the handling issues that had plagued Watson the previous two nights, allowing the Stayner, ON driver to concentrate more on improving position than corralling an ill-handling racecar.
“Tonight was a lot easier for me, in terms of on-track performance”, confirmed Watson. “New Smyrna is such a technical track, it’s tough enough to make a pass here when your car is working. When it’s not working, it’s an absolute handful”.
The team has steadily improved their performance as the division heads toward the World Series 100-lap finale on Saturday night, a race that Watson has been gunning for since unloading on Monday afternoon.
“Our goal has always been a solid run on Saturday”, explained the 2-time OSCAAR champion. “We’re happy with our results these last 3 nights, but in the grand scheme of things they’ve been an extended testing session for us. We’re focused on the finale”.
