STAYNER, ON- Third-generation star Brandon Watson will focus on Round 2 of the APC United Late Model Series powered by Grisdale Racing Products at Flamboro Speedway on June 6th, after a frustrating electrical issue removed him from contention in the series opener at Sunset Speedway on May 23rd.
Watson opened his day at Sunset by setting fast time in qualifying with a blistering lap of 14.052, though an electric issue would end his day prematurely less than 25-laps into the 100-lap event.
“What happened at Sunset was a huge disappointment, but we’ll just pick up and move past it,” explains Watson. “When you have moments like that, it really pays off to have a short memory. We had an awesome car at Sunset, and learned a lot about our setup. So the day wasn’t a complete loss by any means”
“It’s been a while since I’ve raced a Pro Late Model at Sunset, so knowing that we can still stand toe-to-toe with the best in the province is encouraging,” smiles the soft-spoken standout. “We were the only team in the pits that could get down to the 14.0s in time trials – that gave us a reason to smile for sure”
With Sunset’s DNF behind him, Watson will look to regroup and gather back some momentum in Round 2 on June 6th.
“Flamboro is a tough place to race because it can be so hard to make a pass. If you get stuck in traffic there, you’re in for a long night,” says Watson.
“It will be important to knock down a fast lap in qualifying next weekend,” continues the former OSCAAR Tour champion. “Flamboro is not the place that you want to have to come through the field at”
“We’ll be looking to qualify in the top-10, make it into the redraw and then do everything we can to save our equipment through the first half of the race. Whoever has the tires and brakes left for the final 20-laps is going to have the best chance of winning it next Saturday.”
