STAYNER, ON- After working through mechanical issues and poor fortune for much of the 2014 season, Brandon Watson turned in a pair of top-10 finishes in recent outings on both sides of the border.
The 2-time OSCAAR Tour champion returned to action with the ARCA/CRA Super Series on Sunday, September 14th at Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia, OH.
Watson took a liking to the 3/8-mile bullring almost instantly, and ran within the front pack all afternoon, eventually earning a 7th place finish.
“Kil-Kare was a big improvement for our Super Late Model program”, explains Watson. “We had never raced there before, so it was a huge boost of confidence to be able to adapt as quick as we did. I was fortunate enough that our team made the right adjustments through practice and the car came alive in the final half of the race”
“We still have some pretty big races left with the ARCA/CRA Super Series, so being able to take down a top-10 finish does a lot for our confidence, especially after everything we struggled with earlier in the season”, continues Watson.
After finishing up with his 3rd top-10 of the season south of the border, Watson returned to Canadian soil for a trip to Sunset Speedway’s 125-lap ‘Canadian Limited Late Model Championship’ event.
Watson, piloting car-owner Tom Ruff’s Sunrise Toyota-sponsored entry to a podium finish after leading the entirety of the first 75-laps.
“It’s always great to come back to Sunset”, says Watson. “We’ve done a lot of racing there over the past couple years, and no matter what car we’re in, we always seem to hook up well there”
“The event brought out some top-shelf competition, which makes it even better. Ontario has some awesome talent in the Ltd. Late Model division, and when you can get a solid field of these cars in the same place at the same time, it’s a great show for the fans”
Watson’s busy schedule will next take him to Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, IN for the ARCA/CRA Super Series’ EDCO Welding 100. The Stayner, ON star will hope to capitalize on his recent momentum, and will be gunning for his first Super Late Model podium of the season.
