FRASERVILLE, ON- NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 veteran Jeff Lapcevich closed out the 2014 season on a positive note, rallying from deep in the field for a 6th place finish in the September 20th’s ‘Pinty’s 250’ at Kawartha Speedway.
“This wasn’t a bad day at all”, smiled Lapcevich post-race. “We unloaded fast and were able to keep speed in the car all day. We were good on old tires and we were good on new tires. I was happy with the car my guys gave me today”
After practicing 2nd quickest, Lapcevich was forced to overcome a frustrating 13th place effort in time trials.
“Qualifying has never been my forte, but I knew we had a good enough piece to bounce back from that”, explained Lapcevich.
“Starting as deep as we did, I didn’t see much sense in pushing the envelope early”, continued Lapcevich. “We rode for the first half of the race, kept the fenders on the car and saved our equipment. By the time the laps started to count, we had plenty left and were able to make up quite a few spots”
A late-race caution for rain hampered Lapcevich’s run for a top-5 finish, though his charge from 13th to 6th made his No. 76 Tim Hortons Dodge one of the biggest movers of the event.
“The rain definitely hurt us”, admitted the veteran. “We needed as many green flag laps as we could get, and we lost some pretty crucial ones during the short rain delay”
“But, at the end of the day, we passed a lot of quality cars and that’s pretty tough to be mad at”, said Lapcevich. “We had a solid car all day, made it as high as 4th and came home with a real solid 6th place finish. My team made some great decisions on pit road, and didn’t give up on me when we were deep in traffic. I couldn’t ask for much more than that”
With his 6th place finish in the Pinty’s 250, Lapcevich closes the 2014 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series with 6 top-10 performances in 7 starts.
Jeff Lapcevich’s 2014 season would not have been possible without the continued support of Tim Hortons, Castrol, Cathcart Trucking, Troy Cove Marine, EpicRacewear by OnePromo.ca and Springer’s Meats.
