STAYNER, ON- After spending nearly the entirety of his 2014 season competing in the United States with the ARCA/CRA Super Series, Brandon Watson is gearing up for his second Ltd. Late Model start of the season at Sunset Speedway on July 26th.
The event – the second round of the Sauble vs. Sunset ‘Home and Home Series’ – will come just one week after Watson’s 14th place finish at Berlin Raceway’s ‘Battle at Berlin 251’ in Marne, MI.
“We fought our car all day at Berlin”, explained Watson, “it’s a tough place to get ahold of at the best of times, but if you have an ill-handling racecar it can beat you up pretty bad”
“With all that we had to fight through, I’m proud of our top-15 finish”, continued the third-generation star, “there were some of the best Super Late Model racers in the country at Berlin, it was tough enough just making the show”
For Watson, a return to Sunset Speedway Ltd. Late Model competition will present a ‘back to basics’, as the 21-year old returns to the track in which he was a multi-time feature winner at as a regular competitor in 2009.
“Sunset has been really good to us, as a team”, reflected Watson. “No matter what we race there, from a Limited to a Super Late Model, we’ve always seemed to do really well. I enjoy racing there”
“We haven’t done a whole lot of Limited Late Model racing the last few years, so it’ll be nice to get back and race with some guys I haven’t competed against in a while. This Sauble vs. Sunset series is a great idea, and it should provide a good car count, which is excellent”
The event will mark Watson’s second race for car owner Tom Ruff, with Watson hoping to open his new partnership with a trip to Sunset’s victory lane.
“I can’t think of a better way to start our season with Tom than winning at Sunset this weekend”, smiled Watson. “Tom’s an awesome guy, and has great equipment. I definitely appreciate him letting us race his car. There will be some top tier competition there, which will be an excellent test for our team”
