BOND HEAD, ON- After missing Round 3 of the OSCAAR Modified Tour due to illness, Branden Bullen will be back in competition this weekend, as the tour launches two full shows at Sunset Speedway as part of the 16th annual Don Biederman Memorial weekend.
“It’s going to feel amazing getting back on track, I feel like I’ve been out forever”, smiles Bullen. “I woke up the morning of our race at Barrie [Speedway], and I can’t remember the last time I felt that sick. We tried to wait it out as long as we could, but the last place I wanted to be suffering from a stomach virus was behind the wheel of a racecar”
Though skipping a tour stop was not in the team’s original plans, Bullen explains the change in strategy might be a blessing in disguise.
“The extra time off has given us a chance to take a good, hard look at our car”, explains the third-generation driver. “We went over things that we may have missed with just a two-week turnaround between shows. This car is pristine and ready to go, now. I’m confident we’ll be able to contend this weekend”
‘The Bond Head Bandit’ will enter the weekend’s twin-bill seeking his first career tour victory, at a very familiar venue.
“Sunset’s always been home for our team. I started there in a Mini Stock, in what feels like forever ago. I had my first podium finish at Sunset, and it would be pretty fitting if I could earn my first win there too”
“It’s just a huge weekend”, says Bullen when asked about the magnitude of the two-day Don Biederman Memorial event. “There’s going to be a huge crowd there, and we’ll likely have one of our biggest car counts of the season. Throw in the fact that I’ll be racing in front of a tonne of family and friends, and it feels like there are a million reasons to go out and make sure we perform to the best of our capabilities”
Round 4 & 5 of the OSCAAR Modified Tour presented by Hanover Holidays is scheduled for Saturday, June 28th and Sunday, June 29th at Sunset Speedway. Gate times and ticket prices can be found at www.SunsetSpeedway.ca
