HEPWORTH, ON- OSCAAR Super Late Model point leader Andrew Gresel will roll into Sunset Speedway on June 28th & 29th in search of earning his first career Don Biederman Memorial trophy.
“Our whole team has been looking forward to this weekend”, says Gresel. “This is one of the events that it’s just an honour to be a part of. We’ve been fortunate enough to take part in some pretty big races over the years, but ‘the Biederman’ is right up there with the best of them”
“This event is one that you know will be around forever. So winning it, in a lot of ways, is etching your name into the OSCAAR history books for as long as the tour exists”
In Gresel’s last Sunset appearance, the former Pro Late Model standout etched out a 4th place finish. Since then, the second-generation star has added a victory and a runner-up in Rounds 2 and 3 of the tour.
“Sunset was a bit of a slower start than we were hoping for”, admits Gresel. “We were just so tight, it was hard to get the car to roll the center. Since then, we’ve done a tonne of testing at Sunset, and we’re confident we’ve found a couple things that were a tad off, that might improve our handling”
“I’m still coming up to speed on our Sunset setup. We’ve had some awesome pieces everywhere else on the tour, but I’ve struggled a bit at Sunset. It’s a work in progress, but with this Sauble Falls Racing Team working as hard as they always do, I’m confident we’ll figure it out sooner than later”
Gresel is no stranger to Crown Jewel competition, having won both top-tier Pro Late Model events like Delaware’s Great Canadian 200 and Sauble’s Beat the Heat 150, in addition to OSCAAR’s Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough.
“We just seem to be able to excel at some of these bigger races”, says Gresel. “I’m not sure what it is, this team just seems to respond well to pressure. In my opinion, ‘the Biederman’ is every bit as big – if not bigger – than these other races. I would love to add it to our collection, but I know the type of guys I’m going to have to go through to get it. These OSCAAR guys seem to take it to another level every time we race together, so hopefully we can find our A-Game and figure out a way to keep them in our rearview”
