(HALIFAX, NS – June 1st, 2019) – Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, NS) transitioned back to the Legend car division in the off-season and made his return to the Maritime League of Legends Tour a successful one on Saturday by winning the 50-lap Season Opener at Scotia Speedworld. Langille started sixth in the 20 car field and quickly worked his way to the front of the field. The No. 51 Velocity Machining and Welding Legend battled with Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville, NS) on numerous restarts and while Lively was able to keep Langille on his toes, he was unable to race away with the top spot.

“That was a big thing today,” said Langille referring to the amount of restarts in the 50-lap feature. “Andrew kind of played me at my own game for a while. My big thing inside the car was trying stay even with him. If I could, I knew I would have a good chance at beating him down the back stretch. It feels good to be back in a Legend car.”

Lively would race to a second place finish with Emily Meehan (Rawdon, NS) rounding out the podium. Two-time Scotia Speedworld track champion Paul Goulden (Shelburne, NS) finished fourth with reigning Maritime League of Legends Tour titlist Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) coming home fifth.

Of note, four drivers competed in the Maritime League of Legends Tour Season Opener with the Yamaha FZ09 motor package. Langille, Meehan and Goulden all finished in the top five in the race while Darren Sherwood (Cambridge-Narrows, NB) started on the pole for the 50-lap feature and wound up 10th at the checkered flag.

The 50-lap race took 39 minutes to complete with 16 of the 20 drivers finishing on the lead lap in the event. Heat races were won by Baker, Meehan and Langille. Fleet Brake Atlantic Class Bonus winners included Langille (Pro), Lively (Semi-Pro), Goulden (Masters) and Josh Langille (Young Lion). The top rookie in the field was Tanner Spinney (Greenwood, NS), finishing 13th.
