IRWINDALE, CA- 15-year old Blaine Perkins showed no signs of rust after several months away from Late Model competition, scoring a pair of top-5 in twin Seidner’s Collision Late Model events at Irwindale Speedway on April 4th.
The first-generation competitor earned 4th and 5th place finishes in feature competition, providing the Bakersfield, CA driver with a strong follow-up to a 2014 season that produced a win and three top-10s in five starts in the talent-laden Late Model division.
“It’s incredibly satisfying to be able to put up a big performance right out of the gate,” smiled Perkins post-race. “We finished 2014 so strong that all I wanted to do was find a way to try and get that momentum back”
“I can’t even explain how good it feels to be back behind the wheel of a Late Model,” continued Perkins. “This High Point Racing team is the best in the business. These guys gave me a phenomenal piece tonight. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season is going to bring”
Perkins will exit Night 1 of competition sitting 4th in Seidner’s Collision championship points, and with 16-races remaining on the schedule, is prepared for a long run towards a track championship.
“We’re in a really good spot right now,” said Perkins. “With an 18-race schedule, we knew that we had to come out and start the season strong, but not push the envelope too much. My guys had been preaching equipment preservation all week, and I was happy we were able to implement that strategy tonight”
“We have a three week break before we’re back at Irwindale. Because we were able to come home without any damage, we can spend these few weeks concentrating on getting faster as opposed to putting our car back together”
“I have a tonne of respect for the drivers I’m racing with,” continued Perkins. “We would love nothing more than to contend for a championship this season, but we know it won’t be easy”
“We’ll get back to practice this week and see if we can’t learn a little more about this car. We’ll be ready for them on April 25th.”
