OKLAHOMA CITY, OK- One year removed from one of the biggest wins of his Super Late Model career, Donnie Wilson is prepared to get back on track at Fairgrounds Speedway with hopes of capturing his second Nashville guitar.
“I can’t ever remember a time in which I wasn’t excited to go to Nashville,” smiles Wilson when asked about the historic facility. “It’s a track that I have a lot of respect for. It’s a difficult place to get a hold of, but it’s one of the raciest places we go to all year”
“It suits my driving style, for sure,” continues Wilson. “It was one of my favorite speedways before I ever won a race there – having the chance to get our second guitar is just added motivation”
A victory at Nashville last April set Wilson on the path toward his most successful touring season yet, as the veteran ended the 2014 Southern Super Series season with three victories, eight podiums and twelve top-5s in fourteen starts with the popular tour.
“Everything really started rolling after the win at Nashville,” reflects Wilson. “It’s a race that everyone wants to win. And when you can get to the top of the mountain there, it gives you a huge boost of confidence for the rest of the season”
“I’ve never started a race that I had no interest in winning, but Nashville is one of those places that just makes you want it a little bit more”
With a landmark 2014 season at his back, Wilson believes the sky is the limit for what his Wilson’s Ford Parts-backed team can accomplish in 2015.
“Last year was a dream season in a lot of ways – but I think we’re even better now,” remarks the veteran. “You’re never too old to learn, and the amount of intel we’ve brought in over the past 12 months is incredible”
“I think there are a lot of ways that our team can be even better than we were last season, and I believe that Nashville is the ideal place to start showcasing that”
