BRAMPTON, ON- After a top-5 finish in NASCAR Late Model competition last week at Sunset Speedway, third-generation star Billy Zardo hopes that momentum will be on his side when he returns to action tonight.
“We needed that top-5 last Saturday,” explains ‘Z3’. “When you only have a few weeks left, every event means more. It’s the worst time of year to get in a slump”
The Brampton, ON driver has worked through a number of late-season incidents that have since kept his No. 46 out of Sunset Speedway victory lane. Tonight, Zardo will look to break through for his first win of the 2015 season.
“I think we’ve had a car that was fast enough to win a few times this season, we just weren’t able to catch the breaks that we needed,” says the likeable veteran. “Every car on this roster is so evenly matched – you have to be lucky just as much as you have to be fast. We haven’t found our luck yet”
“There’s still a lot of racing left to play out. I’m not panicking,” continues Zardo in reference to his 2015 winless streak. “This car has gotten better every Saturday, so far. We can’t control what every other team is doing or how fast they are. Our job is to make our car as fast as possible, and hope that the wins follow”
With four nights remaining in the Sunset Speedway regular season, Zardo will enter this evening’s event 4th in points, a mere 4-points behind former Barrie Speedway champion Gord Shepherd.
“I’m not sure there’s enough time to catch the top-2 in points, but it’s going to be a lot of fun trying to wrestling third away from Gordie,” smiles Zardo.
“He’s a wheelman – and he’s very, very good at what he does. So, we’ll need to be on our A Game to beat him. A strong run tonight could put us ahead of him, so we’ll just need to come out and get the job done.”
